West Hollywood: Maisy Stella celebrated her Best Young Actor/Actress win at the Critics Choice Awards for her debut in My Old Ass. The actress reflected on her surreal experience and evolving fashion choices during the press tour, marking significant milestones in her emerging career.
At the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, actress Maisy Stella celebrated a significant achievement, securing the Best Young Actor/Actress award for her debut role in the coming-of-age comedy My Old Ass. In an interview with Who What Wear, Stella expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s a crazy feeling waking up this morning to messages and texts… It is real! It actually happened!” The film, which first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, has garnered positive reviews, with Stella praised for her portrayal of Elliott, a spirited teenager who experiences a surreal confrontation with her older self during a mushroom-induced vision.
The awards ceremony capped off an arduous press tour, which showcased Stella’s evolving fashion choices. For the occasion, she opted for a striking black crêpe gown by designer Pamella Roland from the Pre-Fall 2025 collection. The dress featured distinctive cutouts and pearl accents, which Stella described as “probably my favourite one that I’ve gotten to wear yet.” With the guidance of her stylist Tara Swennen, she accessorised with Effy jewellery, a chic black Kate Spade bag, and black satin heels from Giuseppe Zanotti.
Stella’s fashion statement reflects a trend among modern celebrities who frequently draw from vintage aesthetics, evoking an Old Hollywood elegance with a contemporary twist. Her inclination towards blending feminine and masculine silhouettes showcases a recognition of both classic and modern influences in her red carpet wardrobe. “If I feel myself in it, then it’s probably the one,” she elaborated on her style choices, illustrating the role of personal comfort in her sartorial decisions.
The retro-inspired allure of Stella’s get-up was complemented by her hairstylist Sylvia Wheeler, who created a half-up, half-down hairstyle that perfectly framed the actress’s dark-brown locks. The look was in line with the vintage glamour of her gown. Makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis focused on a fresh and natural aesthetic, utilising products from renowned brands like Armani and Bobbi Brown to enhance Stella’s features, resulting in a polished and timeless appearance.
Despite the excitement of the red carpet, Stella confessed to experiencing pre-event jitters. However, the atmosphere in her getting-ready suite at the Pendry Hotel in West Hollywood remained upbeat as she enjoyed tunes from Kendrick Lamar and her favourite song “Girls” by The Dare. The presence of her sister Lennon further added to her comfort, underscoring the familial bonds that often support young celebrities during high-stakes events.
As Stella stepped onto the red carpet, she reflected on the surreal nature of the experience, mentioning, “It was such an insane room of talent,” and recalling her reaction upon spotting actress Margaret Qualley. Following the ceremony, Stella celebrated her victory with a dinner at Pace in Laurel Canyon, surrounded by friends and family, remarking on the affection she felt during the occasion, calling it “perfect.”
Looking back on the press tour, Stella expressed gratitude for the warmth and kindness she received throughout this milestone journey in her career. “It was such a special experience for me. It was my first movie, my first press tour. It was all proper firsts for me,” she stated, highlighting the significance of this phase of her life. The young actress, who has made noteworthy strides at such an early stage, continues to draw inspiration from both modern trends and vintage styles, marking her emerging influence on contemporary celebrity fashion.
