Milan: A collaboration between TENCEL™ by Lenzing and ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei aims to unveil a sustainable textiles collection at the Milano Unica exhibition, focusing on comfort and modern aesthetics for trousers and outerwear, with an emphasis on circular production methods and environmental responsibility.
A groundbreaking collaboration is taking shape in the sustainable fashion sector, involving TENCEL™ by Lenzing and ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei. These established leaders in wood-based cellulosic textiles and premium stretch fibres, respectively, aim to highlight the potential of sustainable and circular textiles across a myriad of applications, spanning from lingerie to indoor sportswear and general apparel.
The collection will be formally presented during the Milano Unica exhibition, set to take place in February next year. The partnership with DESTRO Fabrics is particularly noteworthy as it represents a significant development in sustainable fashion, specifically targeting the production of trousers for both men and women. This range will showcase three distinct textures, designed to provide superior comfort, urban appeal, and a contemporary aesthetic.
Crucially, the initiative revolves around the adoption of a more transparent and circular approach to fashion. The collection will feature pants and outerwear crafted from TENCEL™ by Lenzing and ROICA™ V550 degradable stretch fibre. The materials will be further enriched with European-sourced cotton, entirely spun and woven in Cavernago, Italy.
The spotlight will be on several distinctive fabric weaves, including BIONIC BROKEN TWILL WEAVE, BIOLOGIC TWILL L.H. WEAVE 4/2, and BIOTECH PIQUET WEAVE. These weaves consist of a blend of 68% cotton, 30% TENCEL™ Lyocell, and 2% ROICA™ V550, thereby embodying a commitment to both comfort and sustainability.
Speaking to the Textile Value Chain, a representative from DESTRO Fabrics stated that this launch marks the beginning of a journey, illustrating their dedication to ongoing innovation in comfort and sustainability for future seasons. Established in 2010, DESTRO Fabrics has consistently aimed to produce high-value fabric collections, characterised by product quality and transparency throughout production processes.
The collaboration with Eurotessile since 2018 has further strengthened DESTRO Fabrics’ position in the market, given Eurotessile’s capabilities in spinning and weaving. The brand prioritises environmentally-conscious practices by maintaining a closed supply chain that minimises CO2 emissions and mitigates supply chain risks associated with geopolitical factors. Eurotessile holds several certifications, including GOTS, GRS, OCS, and OEKO-TEX®, and supports its energy requirements through solar panels that contribute to one-third of its annual energy needs.
As the Milano Unica event approaches, stakeholders expect that the combined efforts of these partners will resonate well with the modern consumer’s wardrobe needs, particularly highlighting a new generation of fashion that intertwines style with sustainability.
