Arequipa: On February 12, 2023, the ‘Success Meeting – Sustainable Edition’ showcased sustainable business practices and innovative projects by microentrepreneurs, emphasising the transformation of waste into valuable resources and the introduction of a new credit line for sustainability-focused initiatives.

On Wednesday, February 12, 2023, microentrepreneurs from the Arequipa region gathered for a significant event titled “Success Meeting – Sustainable Edition,” organised by Caja Arequipa at the Arequipa Chamber of Commerce. This event aimed to promote the circular economy and demonstrate how to transform waste into valuable resources, thereby encouraging sustainable business models in the area.

The day was packed with informative sessions where various stakeholders shared their experiences and strategies. A key feature of the event was a presentation by guest speaker James Guevara, who introduced his innovative project “Transforming Plastic Wood.” This initiative focuses on recycling plastic waste into practical products, such as tables and desks, that mimic the properties of traditional wood. Guevara’s efforts contribute to reducing environmental impact by employing reused materials effectively.

Several microentrepreneurs showcased their successful ventures, illustrating the practical application of sustainability principles. Mirsia Gutiérrez detailed her process of converting solid waste into eco-friendly packaging material, presenting an efficient solution that supports environmental sustainability. Duez Estrada introduced his line of car accessories, including dice and nuts, crafted from recycled materials, highlighting advancements within the sustainable automotive sector. Additionally, Víctor Flores shared insights into his production of organic fertiliser from chicken manure, underscoring the ecological benefits of his work.

The event also provided an educational component, with analysts from Caja Arequipa receiving training in sustainability and circular economy strategies. This training aimed to enhance their understanding of sustainable business practices, equipping them to better support clients who wish to adopt such initiatives. The knowledge gained will enable them to guide entrepreneurs in accessing tailored financial tools designed to promote sustainability-focused projects.

In conjunction with these discussions, Caja Arequipa introduced a new credit line called Crediciclo, aimed specifically at projects centred on the reuse, repair, renewal, and recycling of materials. This initiative signifies the institution’s dedication to fostering sustainable practices and promoting effective resource management.

Overall, the “Success Meeting – Sustainable Edition” reaffirmed Caja Arequipa’s role as a leading proponent of sustainable business practices within the financial sector, aiming to nurture responsible microenterprises and enhance community well-being through environmental stewardship and economic development.
