A talented group from Presentation De La Salle College in Bagenalstown, known as Game Night Glam, has advanced to the Regional Final of the prestigious Junk Kouture competition. Out of a staggering 1,200 entries, only 160 groups have made it to this level, highlighting the remarkable achievement of these young designers and their model, Anna Minchin.
The team, consisting of designers Audrey Martin and Zoe Clarke, has crafted an intricate and complex outfit that integrates old and recycled game boards into its design. Their ensemble showcases creativity and a strong commitment to sustainable fashion. The corset of the outfit features a unique assemblage of Monopoly money, Scrabble letters, and Uno cards, which have all been meticulously glued together by hand.
Adding to the ensemble’s charm, the trail features a skirt made from a Twister mat, layered artfully with cards from various board games. The group’s attention to detail extends to their headpiece, which is ingeniously designed to resemble a pool table, enhancing the overall “Game Night” theme of their creation.
The inspiration for this innovative project stemmed from a personal experience shared by the team. “The story of this dress began when one of the group members started a Christmas clean out in their homes. As they were going through the board games, they realised how many missing pieces there were,” the group described. They further noted that during discussions, they realised the difficulty of donating games that had incomplete components, sparking their creative journey to repurpose the abandoned items into a compelling Junk Kouture design, which led to the naming of their group, ‘Game Night Glam’.
As anticipation builds for the Regional Final, the members of Presentation De La Salle College wish each other the best of luck, eager to showcase their unique vision and creativity.
