London: Seasalt has partnered with Beyond Retro to launch a limited-edition capsule collection featuring sustainable clothing made from post-consumer denim. Available from 2 March, the range includes unique items crafted with a focus on environmental responsibility and social ethics.
Seasalt, a UK-based clothing brand, has announced a collaboration with Beyond Retro, a vintage and second-hand clothing retailer, to launch a limited-edition capsule collection featuring sustainable fashion pieces. This range includes cropped jeans, a pinafore dress, and a workwear-style jacket, all crafted from post-consumer denim that has been diverted from landfills. The collection is set to be available for purchase online and in select Seasalt stores starting 2 March.
The collaboration, branded as Beyond Retro X Seasalt, is part of Seasalt’s newly initiated Creative Circularity initiative. This programme aims to explore creative ways to enhance environmental and social impact throughout the product lifecycle. The upcycled garments are processed and cut by BVHMI, Beyond Retro’s sister company based in India, ensuring efficient sourcing and minimal waste.
Seasalt’s new collection will cater to women and will be available in sizes 8 to 18, with prices set at £145 for the jacket, £130 for the cropped jeans, and £125 for the dress. The collection’s unique selling point lies in the individuality of each garment, as the denim used will incorporate various tones, patterns, and textures, rendering every piece a one-of-a-kind item with its own narrative.
Laura Watson, Chief Creative Officer at Seasalt, expressed her admiration for Beyond Retro, highlighting how the two brands’ values align. “The partnership aims to reduce textile waste within the clothing industry while paving the way for a more circular clothing future,” she said. She further detailed the garment creation process, explaining that pre-loved denim was sourced and processed in India, thereby bypassing the conventional fabric manufacturing and dyeing stages typically associated with new denim.
To maintain sustainability, all products will be transported by sea, which reduces carbon impact. Watson emphasised that the brand has established stringent guidelines to make thoughtful decisions throughout the product journey. Beyond Retro co-founder Steven Bethell elaborated on this commitment, noting the factory’s infrastructure that supports environmental responsibility, including a water recycling facility and solar panel installation.
In addition, Seasalt has made strides in social responsibility, having achieved B Corp certification last year. Watson noted that this recognition underscores the brand’s dedication to social and environmental issues, serving as a framework for ongoing improvements. The brand intends to apply these principles to the Beyond Retro X Seasalt collection, driving forward its Creative Circularity initiative and working towards ethical practices across its global supply chain, as a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI).
The collaborative collection reflects a growing trend in the fashion industry towards sustainability, as brands seek to repurpose materials and minimise waste in response to environmental concerns. Customers interested in purchasing items from the Beyond Retro X Seasalt collection can do so online or at selected Seasalt locations in cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, and Cambridge.
