London: The quirky shoe brand Hey Dude has unveiled a new collection inspired by the iconic Furby toys. Featuring leopard print and rainbow designs, the range captures ’90s nostalgia while offering unique footwear styles, though not all fans are satisfied with the targeting of the line.

In a nostalgic nod to the late ’90s, the quirky shoe brand Hey Dude has unveiled a new Furby-inspired collection that has delighted fans of the iconic toy. Dubbed a “core memory” for many who grew up during that era, Furbies—those peculiar squirrel-owl-gremlin hybrid toys—have found a new platform, this time as fashionable footwear.

The collection features two standout styles that capture the playful essence of the beloved toys. The first design showcases a striking leopard print (£74.99), a tribute to the original colour schemes of Furbies and a fashion staple in the 1990s. Adorning the laces is a charming Furby keychain, complemented by petite Furbies scattered throughout the print, creating a whimsical aesthetic.

The second, and arguably more eye-catching style, is a vibrant rainbow pair (£69.99) that fully embraces the chaotic charm of Furbies, featuring the toy’s iconic face and fluffy details. With unmistakable pointy ears, these shoes cater to those who revel in loud, nostalgic fashion statements.

Styling these unique slip-ons may pose a challenge for some, but embracing the ’90s vibe seems to be the guiding principle. Suggestions include pairing the shoes with rhinestone-embellished jeans reminiscent of Lizzie McGuire or using butterfly clips in the hair for a classic Tammy Girl look.

Quick to garner attention, the new range has prompted numerous feedback from customers. One satisfied buyer praised the rainbow pair as “so comfy and cute,” adding, “I feel some childish joy as a 33-year-old woman, and I hope you someday re-collaborate and make more Furby colours.”

Similarly, a leopard-print enthusiast shared their enthusiasm, stating, “(I) love these Furby Hey Dudes. I get a ton of compliments on them. They are cute and comfortable. I love the keychain they came with.” However, not all reviews were overwhelmingly positive. A disappointed shopper highlighted their frustration, expressing sadness that the line was exclusively aimed at women and teenagers: “I owned a Furby as a kid and was like, no way when I saw this. I clicked fast…oh, it’s only women, and (Hey Dude) definitely don’t have my size.”

On the other hand, another customer reflected on the shoe’s fit, stating, “They are so cute and fit well. I’m a size 8-8.5, I got the 8, but I have thin feet. If you have wider feet, go up a size if you’re in between sizes. (I) definitely would have loved these as a kid in the 90s.”

Hey Dude’s Furby collection combines comfort, nostalgia, and a touch of chaos, embodying the spirit of the ’90s. Shoppers can explore the offerings at Hey Dude’s website. Meanwhile, for those yearning for more 90s-inspired styles, online retailer ASOS features a range of Tammy Girl edits with prices starting from £5, while PrettyLittleThing offers a dedicated section on ’90s fashion, perking up vintage vibes with items such as a camo-print mini skirt priced at £9.
