The new collection embodies festival fashion with playful designs and practical outerwear, perfectly timed for the ongoing festival season.
Alexa Chung, a prominent figure in the fashion industry, has once again collaborated with Barbour to launch her second collection as Creative Director and Designer for the iconic British brand. The partnership has become synonymous with festival fashion, particularly at events like Glastonbury, where Chung’s affinity for Barbour apparel has become well-known.
The new collection was designed to coincide with the ongoing festival season, following the successful debut last September, titled ‘The Edit By Alexa Chung’. This collection features an array of outerwear, clothing, and innovative footwear, including showerproof jackets adorned with tartan liners, bomber jackets with cord collars, and knitwear crafted by Harleys of Scotland. Among the footwear options are a sleek slip-on clog and a wedged Wellington boot, tailored for both function and style.
Chung has expressed her enthusiasm for the second collection, stating, “I’m in love with the second collection I have designed for Barbour. I think the codes and language we have built together are now well established in that we create playful takes on Barbour’s heritage.” Among her favorite pieces are a bright yellow jacket and a fire engine red raincoat, which reflect her focus on color and playfulness. This vision was further brought to life through a camping trip-themed photo shoot, capturing the essence of festival culture with the renowned photographer Tim Walker.
Paul Wilkinson, Group Commercial Director of Barbour, highlighted the authenticity of their collaboration, pointing out that Chung’s long-standing relationship with the brand enhances the partnership. “Whether it’s Alexa wearing us throughout her childhood or of course, her iconic Glastonbury style, Barbour has always been a trusted companion,” he remarked. He emphasized that the new collection represents a blend of personal experiences rooted in Barbour’s classic heritage, viewed through Chung’s unique lens.
Chung’s design career is notable and varied. She founded her own fashion line, ALEXACHUNG, in 2017, following successful collaborations with brands such as AG Jeans and Marks & Spencer. Her debut at London Fashion Week in 2018 showcased her growing influence, leading to her label being available in 15 countries by 2019. However, she announced the closure of her brand in 2022, citing challenging conditions for small independent businesses.
As her partnership with Barbour extends, the latest collection reinforces Chung’s position in the fashion landscape, particularly as festival season approaches, making it a timely offering for consumers seeking both functionality and style in their festival attire.
