A coalition of 11 prominent brands pledges to reform their supply chains to eliminate materials sourced from Ancient and Endangered Forests, marking a major step in the fight against deforestation.
In an ongoing commitment to sustainability, a coalition of 11 prominent brands has pledged to reform their supply chains to safeguard the planet’s forests. This initiative is notably part of Canopy’s programs, CanopyStyle and Pack4Good, which aim to eliminate the sourcing of materials from Ancient and Endangered Forests in the textile and paper packaging sectors.
Among the participating companies are well-known names such as Boden, Nobis, Native Shoes, Bobo Choses, Finisterre, SMCP, and moodytiger. They are joined by innovative newcomers in the sustainable materials sphere: Circulose, Palouse Fiber Packaging, and Medoola, which focus on producing sustainable materials derived from used clothing, wheat straw, and food waste. In addition, Checkpoint Systems, a producer of paper packaging, has vowed to source materials responsibly.
As part of their broader sustainability agendas, these brands are prioritizing low-impact, low-carbon, and circular alternatives, including recycled textiles and agricultural by-products, to mitigate their environmental impact. The latest commitments have significantly expanded CanopyStyle to include 578 brands with a combined annual revenue of approximately $1.646 trillion. Similarly, Pack4Good now comprises 466 brands, which represent a total valuation exceeding $341.4 billion.
Each year, approximately 3.4 billion trees are cut down for the production of packaging and fabrics like viscose. By implementing Next Gen sustainable solutions, the participating brands are not only fortifying their supply chains but also easing the pressure on forests, which is pivotal in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss.
Helen Webb-Carter, Head of Fabric at Boden, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. “Boden is thrilled to collaborate with Canopy to eliminate sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests. Our customers understand the critical role these ecosystems play in our lives,” she stated. Nicole Rycroft, Executive Director of Canopy, remarked on the significance of this collective effort: “We are excited to welcome these brands into CanopyStyle and Pack4Good. Their commitment to sustainable sourcing and circular solutions is a crucial step toward keeping forests standing, protecting biodiversity, and securing a climate-safe future.”
The alignment of these companies with Canopy situates them within a larger global movement, encompassing over 1,000 brands dedicated to fostering a sustainable future. Their collaborative efforts aim to redefine the fashion and packaging industries, focusing on creating climates solutions rather than being contributors to deforestation.
With this focus on sustainability, these brands are expressing the belief that such commitments are not merely a passing trend, but rather a vital aspect of the future of industry practices.
