Designer Yueqi Qi presents her ‘YUEQI QI’ collection at the Yodobashi Church, merging themes of identity with innovative fashion.

Designer Yueqi Qi showcased her “YUEQI QI” Autumn/Winter 2025 collection in an evocative runway show held at the Yodobashi Church located in Shinjuku. The event, characterized by its unique setting, highlighted the theme “PERSONA,” which explores the complexities of identity—how individuals present themselves to the outside world and their private selves away from public scrutiny.

Through this thematic lens, Qi’s collection illustrates the interplay between control and liberation of instincts, drawing inspiration from motifs associated with her beloved cats. The lineup featured a variety of apparel, including soft chiffon blouses, feminine balloon skirts, knit tops that boasted deep openings at the back, and robust leather jackets. This combination effectively created a juxtaposition of fragility and strength, visually representing a woman navigating diverse scenarios.

Notably, the collection incorporated innovative materials, merging upcycled leather with laser-cut lace to achieve a delicate balance between structure and flow. Attendees observed a range of items, from skirts and bags embellished with handmade beads and intricate embroidery to knits that cleverly mimicked cat faces using lace. Moreover, jackets and skirts showcased the designer’s signature “love” motif, while whimsical cat-ear headpieces were crafted from macrame and upcycled leather, reinforcing the collection’s playful yet profound approach to identity.

In an additional highlight of the collection, Qi introduced a pair of Apple’s “AirPods Max” headphones, enhanced with a beaded headpiece for a distinct look. Complementing the apparel collection, Qi also unveiled footwear created in collaboration with UGG. These boots, designed for versatility, can also be styled as sandals and are set to be released in limited quantities this April.

The event not only marked a significant moment for Yueqi Qi but also added to the conversation surrounding fashion’s capacity to reflect personal identity, drawing an audience eager to engage with the themes presented.
