At the China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories Expo, Eastman presents its Naia™ On the Move solution aimed at enhancing comfort in urban fashion while promoting sustainable practices.
At the China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories (Spring/Summer) Expo, Eastman, a global specialty materials company, introduced a comprehensive product application matrix for its Naia™ Renew cellulosic fibers. This unveiling included the launch of an innovative blending solution named “Naia™ On the Move,” which is aimed at transforming active urban fashion by enhancing comfort and versatility while showcasing Eastman’s continued commitment to sustainable practices in the fashion sector.
Chad Doub, the global segment leader of staple fibers at Eastman’s textiles division, discussed the journey of Naia™ staple fiber, which began its successful introduction to the Chinese market in 2020. In a statement to Apparel Views, Doub noted, “Since its initial successful adoption in the Chinese market in 2020, Naia™ staple fiber has embarked on a five-year journey of innovation and persistence. As a novel fiber, Naia™ staple has not only filled a market gap but has also become a key force in helping brands achieve their sustainability goals.” The applications for Naia™ are expanding year by year, moving from loungewear into casual T-shirts, knitwear, and now into activewear, denim, and woven fabrics. At the expo, Eastman showcased the most comprehensive array of these applications yet.
The “Naia™ On The Move” concept specifically targets the needs of individuals leading fast-paced urban lives. This innovative application of Naia™ Renew staple fiber caters to the light sports sector and emphasizes seamless transitions across various settings. It boasts unmatched features such as exceptional moisture management, breathability, and a lightweight, soft feel. These attributes provide comfort across a range of temperatures and humidity levels, making the fabric well-suited for commuting, work, and light athletic activities. Doub elaborated, saying, “Just as smart technology is reshaping modern lifestyles, we are redefining next-to-skin ‘comfort on the move.’ ‘Naia™ On The Move’ is not just an innovation in application but a lifestyle concept designed to deliver all-day comfort and ease.”
Sustainability remains a cornerstone of the Naia™ Renew staple fiber, which is composed of 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% GRS-certified recycled waste materials. Eastman employs its carbon renewal technology (CRT) to transform difficult-to-recycle waste materials into basic molecules, thereby creating new cellulose acetate fibers without sacrificing quality. This approach addresses two significant environmental challenges: waste pollution and the overconsumption of raw materials. The use of Naia™ Renew staple fiber in denim exemplifies the balance between comfort and sustainability, while its applications also extend into woven woolen fabrics, such as structured shirts and tweed coats, and further into home textile fillings, solidifying its versatility in everyday living.
Eastman’s presentation at the expo highlights its efforts not only to innovate but also to lead in sustainable fiber production, establishing Naia™ as a significant player in the evolving landscape of urban fashion.
