A shopper at a Beaufort Goodwill had a surprising encounter over a valuable Yeti cooler bag, highlighting a need for proper shopping etiquette.

A unique incident at a Goodwill thrift store in Beaufort, South Carolina, recently caught the attention of social media when a shopper discovered a Yeti portable cooler bag that led to an unexpected confrontation with other customers. The discovery was made by Reddit user u/baconreader4eva, a 44-year-old who regularly frequents thrift stores in search of hidden gems.

The incident occurred during her visit to the Goodwill store, where she stumbled upon the cooler bag tucked away behind some men’s pants. Recognizing the brand’s high value, u/baconreader4eva felt compelled to purchase the item, which was priced at an unusually low $7.98, well below the retail price of over $500 for similar models. Speaking to Newsweek, she expressed her immediate interest, stating, “I knew straight away that I had to buy it.”

However, the shopping experience took a surprising turn when two other shoppers attempted to take the cooler bag from her cart. u/baconreader4eva recounted, “Some lady grabbed it in my cart and said to me, ‘you don’t want this do you?’ So, I snatched it back into my cart and said that I wouldn’t have it in my cart if I didn’t want it.” As she made her way to the register, a man also approached her and attempted to buy the bag directly, prompting her to snatch it back and express her irritation quietly as she left the store.

Reflecting on the incident, she mentioned her amazement that the bag even made it onto the sales floor given the interest it garnered. After some cleaning, she noted that the cooler bag looked as good as new. She plans to put it to use during an upcoming road trip in April.

Following her discovery, u/baconreader4eva took to Reddit to share her experience, which quickly gained traction with over 12,000 views and 630 comments at the time of reporting. She highlighted the importance of respecting one another’s belongings while shopping, stating her hope that this experience would draw attention to the notion that one cannot claim items from other people’s carts.

The online community responded positively to her post, with many sharing similar experiences. One comment read: “This is the type of item I go straight to the register for and try and act natural LOL.” Another user echoed the sentiment of disbelief, commenting, “I’m sorry…. Tired to take it from your cart? The AUDACITY.” Overall, the incident not only showcased the excitement surrounding thrifting but also sparked a broader conversation about proper etiquette while shopping.
