Amid global economic challenges, Gyeonggi Province is implementing a new project aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its textile sector through digital transformation and management innovation.

Gyeonggi Province is taking significant steps to bolster the competitiveness of its textile industry amidst global economic challenges. On March 19, 2023, provincial officials announced the launch of the “2025 Textile Manufacturing Revitalization and Capability Enhancement Project,” which will be executed in partnership with the Gyeonggi Textile Industry Association. This initiative is designed to fortify the manufacturing and management capabilities of textile companies as they navigate a rapidly evolving industrial landscape marked by a restructuring of the global supply chain, the onset of digital transformation, and smart innovations.

The project is organized into four main areas, each targeting a specific aspect of the textile industry. Notably, the “Management Innovation Capability Enhancement” program aims to tailor consulting services that address environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. This is a strategic move to ensure sustainability in the face of the shifting global marketplace. The initiative aims to onboard 10 companies focused on consulting and 6 involved in system establishment.

Additionally, the “Digital Transformation Capability Enhancement” program will assist companies in creating marketing content, which includes advanced 3D modeling and virtual clothing. This facet of the project recognizes the need for digital engagement within the fashion textiles sector and will recruit a total of 16 companies to participate.

Another critical component, the “Smart Manufacturing Process,” focuses on automating and refining production processes. This program aims to enhance productivity through the integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G connectivity, big data analytics, and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). It will also provide after-sales support for the automation equipment introduced, targeting the recruitment of 10 companies to participate.

The initiative also includes the “Knit Material Uniform Development and Commercialization Support” program, which focuses on the development and distribution of various uniforms—including student, work, and safety uniforms—utilizing locally produced knit materials. This program seeks to identify specialized materials suitable for uniforms and produce customized high-functionality options that meet specific demands.

Companies interested in engaging with the project can submit their applications by April 11, 2023. Detailed information regarding the application process is available on both the Gyeonggi Textile Industry Association’s and the Gyeonggi Business Secretary’s websites. Jeon Eun-sook, Head of Business Development, commented, “Due to recent global economic downturns leading to decreased demand and a sluggish economy, many textile companies in the province are facing significant challenges. We will actively support them to overcome this crisis through this project,” emphasizing the province’s commitment to the growth of its textile sector.

Interested parties can reach out to the textile business team at the Gyeonggi Textile Industry Association for further inquiries regarding participation in this initiative.
