The Big Fat Clothing Swap returns for its second installment, set to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, Louisiana. Designed to provide a free and inclusive shopping experience specifically for individuals in sizes XL and above, this event welcomes community participation by accepting donations of clothing, shoes, and accessories in the same size range. Drop-off locations for these donations span various addresses in Lafayette and Youngsville.
Organized by a coalition of plus-size community advocates—including representatives from local nonprofit organizations such as the Lafayette Tool Library, No Waste Lafayette, and the Acadiana Queer Collective—the initiative aims to foster resource-sharing, promote sustainability, and champion body-positive fashion. According to one of the event organizers, this clothing swap seeks to create a welcoming space for attendees to discover stylish and well-fitted clothing without the burden of financial cost.
The inaugural Big Fat Clothing Swap, held in November 2024, saw significant community engagement, featuring over 700 donated items and participation from more than 60 attendees. On average, each participant left with seven pieces of clothing, regardless of their contributions. Any remaining items from the event were donated to The Extra Mile, showcasing the event’s commitment to supporting further charitable efforts.
Alongside the clothing swap, the upcoming April event will also spotlight local market vendors who cater specifically to plus-size individuals, further enhancing the inclusive environment the organizers aim to create.
For those interested in donating, gently used or new items in sizes XL and above can be dropped off at the following locations:
