Rimowa’s new Holiday Collection blends nostalgia for the late 1980s with modern travel needs, featuring vibrant colors and practical design.

Rimowa has unveiled its Holiday Collection, a fresh take on one of its most beloved designs originally launched in 1988. This new collection aims to blend nostalgia with modern travel needs, appealing to both seasoned globetrotters and fashion enthusiasts.

The Holiday Collection, once referred to as “the suitcase for young people,” features a vibrant palette with cases available in red, yellow, and blue. This colorful flair is designed to evoke the expressive freedom that characterized the late 1980s. “The collection exudes a playful charm while maintaining Rimowa’s signature quality,” the publication notes.

Each suitcase in the collection is equipped with practical features including a white leather-stamped luggage tag, a TSA-approved lock, a dual-organization interior, and is constructed from a lightweight polycarbonate shell. The design, however, deviates from contemporary suitcase norms as these cases do not include wheels. Instead, they are intended to be carried by hand or worn using an adjustable crossbody strap, echoing a time before the proliferation of rolling suitcases and mobile technology.

The advertising campaign accompanying the launch of the Holiday Collection effectively merges vintage aesthetics with modern sensibilities. It showcases travelers admiring the original promotional imagery from 1988, invoking a sense of timeless adventure and sentimentality around travel.

Currently, the Rimowa Holiday Collection is available for purchase in stores and online, with each piece retailing at $1,200 USD. This launch not only marks a tribute to the heritage of travel but also aims to inspire contemporary travelers to embrace a sense of adventure amidst their journeys.
