Dolly Parton has collaborated with Good American to launch a limited-edition collection named the Dolly Joleans, blending her iconic style with contemporary fashion.
Good American, the apparel brand co-founded by Khloé Kardashian and Emma Grede, has announced an exciting collaboration with iconic singer and songwriter Dolly Parton that promises to bring a unique blend of glamour and country style to the fashion world. This limited-edition collection, aptly named the Dolly Joleans, will be officially released on Thursday and features an array of garments adorned with rhinestones, gingham patterns, and the standout “Joleans,” a term coined by Parton herself to describe the collection’s denim offerings.
In an interview with WWD, Parton shared insights into her creative process and the inspiration behind the collection. “We tried to Dolly-ize it, if you will, as much as we could,” she said, referencing her celebrated personal style, which shaped the design aesthetic of the apparel. During the interview, Parton wore an outfit reminiscent of her 1977 “Here You Come Again” album cover, showcasing her illustrious fashion legacy.
Known for her bold looks, which often include blonde wigs and dazzling outfits, Parton reflected on her fashion influences, stating that they stem from two unusual sources: the risqué lingerie catalog Frederick’s of Hollywood, and a local woman dubbed “the town tramp” who made an impression on her during her childhood. “They called this lady ‘trash’ because she wore too much makeup, big hair, red nails, high heels, short skirts… but when I was little, that impressed me,” Parton revealed. This appreciation for over-the-top style is foundational to her personal brand, a sentiment underscored by her famous quote, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”
At 79 years old, Parton maintains her commitment to this signature style. “I want to look cheap. That’s my look,” she explained. Despite her affection for high fashion, she emphasized that both expensive and inexpensive attire often convey the same message when worn by her. Moreover, she offered a glimpse into her more relaxed wardrobe at home in Brentwood, Tennessee, referring to her comfortable clothing as “flop clothes.” “I usually put on my makeup, and I fix my hair every, every day, and then I’ll wear very comfortable clothes,” she noted.
Over her decades-spanning career, Parton has faced critiques about her flamboyant fashion choices but has consistently chosen to embrace her defining style. “It doesn’t matter what anybody else says,” she said. Her determination to remain true to herself, regardless of public opinion, is an enduring aspect of her character.
Through this collaboration with Good American, Parton aims to instill confidence and self-expression in her audience. “I hope [people] will feel they look good, and it’ll give them a little confidence and a little flair, and just feeling like ‘I’ve got a little bit of country flavor going on here. Got a little Dolly in there,’” she remarked.
Emma Grede, co-founder and CEO of Good American, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “Dolly Parton is a true icon whose influence transcends generations, and partnering with her on this collection is an incredible honor. Together, we created a collection that embodies self-expression and embracing what makes each of us unique.”
The Dolly Joleans collection will be available for a limited time at Good American stores and online, with prices ranging from $64 to $229, starting Thursday.
