Perri Cutten, a prominent figure in Australian fashion, has passed away at the age of 73. According to reports, she died peacefully on Friday, October 27, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Cutten’s journey in the fashion industry began when she launched her eponymous label at the age of 31. In 1981, she established her first store on High Street in the Melbourne suburb of Armadale. Over the span of four decades, her designs became a staple in the wardrobes of Australian women. Her collections, known for their classic and contemporary aesthetic, have been available in 32 locations across the country, including major retailers such as Myer and David Jones, as well as stand-alone boutiques.

In addition to her successful fashion career, Cutten was recognized for her contributions to design education. In 1998, she received an honorary doctorate from Swinburne University’s Faculty of Design, underscoring her impact and influence in the field.

Cutten resided on the Mornington Peninsula with her partner, photographer Jo Daniel. A post on the official Perri Cutten Facebook page expressed condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Perri Cutten, an iconic figure in Australian fashion whose name has become synonymous with timeless elegance and sophistication.” The message highlighted her legacy as a designer who dressed generations of women with “style, grace, and confidence,” noting that her contribution to the industry was both visionary and personal.

Reflecting on her passing, a death notice confirmed that Cutten was a beloved mother, sister, stepmother, and partner. A private cremation will be held, with plans for a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
