In an interview with El País, RM shares insights on his artistic journey, evolving fashion sense, and admiration for timeless design.
In a recent interview with the Spanish publication El País, RM, a member of the globally popular music group BTS, shared his thoughts on his artistic journey and personal evolution. The conversation covered various aspects of his life, including his development as an artist and the shifts in his personal style.
During the interview, RM reflected on the multiple identities he has embraced throughout his career. He reminisced about his initial fashion choices, which included oversized t-shirts and baseball caps. He noted that his style has significantly evolved over the years, moving toward a more sophisticated and monochromatic wardrobe characterized by high-end brands. “I went through XXL t-shirts and baseball caps. Then I got into high-end brands…Like Rap Monster, I started wearing only black and white,” RM said, gesturing with a playful roll of his eyes.
Today, RM expresses a preference for timeless fashion rather than fleeting trends. He articulated this change in mindset, stating, “Now I’m into timelessness. I’m over trends. I’m looking for vintage jeans, cotton t-shirts, and natural things that don’t scream ‘Hey, I’m here!’” This mature approach highlights his desire for a more understated yet elegant style.
A significant focus of the conversation was RM’s admiration for the luxury fashion brand Bottega Veneta. He praised the brand for its commitment to quality and design that transcends passing trends. When asked about rumors regarding a potential collaboration with Bottega Veneta, RM expressed enthusiasm, saying he would “love to” partner with them. He pointed out, “Although I lost interest in brands, fashion weeks, and that constant change of Pantone…Bottega is different, they don’t use logos, they have a history with fabrics and leather, they don’t even have Instagram. They are beyond fads.”
Bottega Veneta’s distinct approach to marketing, primarily through word-of-mouth and a lack of reliance on social media, resonates with RM’s evolving fashion philosophy. His recent role as the face of the brand’s 2023 Spring/Summer campaign underscores the synergy between his personal style and Bottega Veneta’s aesthetic.
As RM continues to grow both personally and artistically, his candid reflections on fashion and identity showcase a notable level of maturity and insight into the complexities of both the industry and personal expression.
