New York: Adam Sandler surprised fans by appearing in a tuxedo at the SNL 50th Anniversary Special, accompanied by wife Jackie in a striking black dress. He performed a tribute song reflecting on his SNL tenure, despite joking about his discomfort with formal attire.

Adam Sandler made a notable appearance at the “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special” held on Sunday, showcasing a departure from his typical casual style. The iconic comedian, typically seen in bright polos and baggy shorts, donned a classic tuxedo for the star-studded red carpet event celebrating the 50-year legacy of “Saturday Night Live.”

Accompanying him was his wife, Jackie, who opted for a striking sheer black halter dress that featured high-waisted briefs, complementing Sandler’s formal attire. Sandler himself, despite the elegant look, commented on the unusual experience of being dressed up in black tie. “It’s a terrible feeling,” he remarked in an interview with Variety, explaining that his former SNL colleague Al Franken saw him in more casual attire the previous night and prompted him to elevate his look for the occasion.

During the red carpet interviews, fellow comedian Amy Schumer playfully critiqued Sandler’s appearance, stating, “You look handsome. No, you look very handsome,” but added with a cheeky tone, “Yeah, a tailor would have been … you know. Anyway.” Sandler countered, saying, “That means someone’s gotta touch me and I don’t like that.”

The highlights of the evening unfolded during the television special, where Sandler performed a poignant tribute song titled “50 Years.” Introduced by actor Jack Nicholson, who appeared in a Yankees beret and tinted sunglasses, Sandler’s performance stirred nostalgia as it reflected on his tenure with SNL from 1991 to 1995, and included a touching mention of his late friend, Chris Farley.

Although Sandler’s sophisticated get-up for the special may have pleasantly surprised some fans, his fashion choices in the past have been a source of both affection and humour. In a previous instance, he was roasted by co-star Jennifer Aniston during the premiere of their film “Murder Mystery 2” in 2023 for showing up in a casual Knicks sweatshirt and Hawaiian shirt, a stark contrast to her stylish Versace minidress. Aniston’s immediate reaction was, “What the hell are you doing?! I’m not standing next to him!”

Despite the mixed reactions to his attire over the years, Sandler was notably the most Googled celebrity for “celebrity outfit” in 2021, surpassing high-profile names like Britney Spears and Harry Styles, demonstrating that he has garnered a unique place in the fashion narrative.
