London: Adidas reinvigorates its iconic Samba silhouette with a new pony hair collection, featuring the monochromatic “Wonder White Pony” and “Sand Strata Pony” designs. Priced at $120, the release showcases the continued relevance of the Samba in contemporary fashion, influenced by collaborations with Wales Bonner.
Adidas has recently revived its pony hair Sambas collection, building on the success of earlier collaborations with Wales Bonner. The German sportswear brand has generated considerable excitement by offering a fresh take on the much-loved silhouette, which has seen ongoing popularity within the fashion community.
In a move away from the previously released leopard print designs, Adidas has introduced two new monochromatic colourways. The first iteration, titled “Wonder White Pony,” features a predominantly white pony hair upper, complemented by black suede stripes and a mustache detailing that is inlaid rather than raised. The exterior design is accentuated with contrasting cross stitches, adding refinement to the overall look, while a classic black cupsole completes the aesthetic.
The second variant, known as “Sand Strata Pony,” comes with a more intricate colour scheme. This model showcases burgundy pony hair dominating the upper, contrasted with pink suede stripes and cream mustache details. Similar to its counterpart, this version also includes a classic gum cupsole.
The revitalisation of the Samba silhouette has been significantly influenced by Wales Bonner’s distinct collaborations, which have raised its profile. The recent developments within Adidas suggest that the popularity of the Samba design continues to thrive, despite fears that the trend may fade.
While a specific release date for the new pony hair Sambas in the United States has not yet been confirmed, overseas retailers are beginning to unveil the collection, indicating that anticipation is building for American consumers. Each of the new designs is priced at $120.
