Adidas SPZL revitalizes its archives for the Spring Summer 2025 season, showcasing vintage-inspired footwear and curated apparel under curator Gary Aspden’s guidance.

Adidas SPZL is set to make a notable entrance into the Spring Summer 2025 season by revitalizing its archive with fresh silhouettes and carefully curated apparel. Under the meticulous guidance of long-time curator Gary Aspden, the collection embodies both a cinematic experience and nostalgia, channeling the legacy of Adidas while maintaining a contemporary focus. The campaign, characterized by a blend of history and modernity, features visuals shot by renowned music photographer Kevin Cummins and includes a short film directed by Nick Griffiths, produced by &SON. The campaign prominently stars British actor James Nelson Joyce, who has long supported the Adidas SPZL brand.

The footwear lineup for this season showcases six distinctive styles, each crafted with roots in vintage designs yet modified to suit current trends. Leading the assortment is the TRX Mesh SPZL, which revamps the classic TRX runner. Retaining its iconic blue and yellow color scheme, the updated shoe features a new upper pattern that refreshes the silhouette while staying true to its original essence.

Next in the range is the Handball Cup SPZL, a design that pays homage to mid-1980s handball styles by integrating elements from two vital references. This shoe is derived from the 1983 Handball Spezial, characterized by a blue and white palette, while incorporating a sweeping leather overlay inspired by the Handball Top. The shoe is completed with red accents, a soft suede upper, and a white dimpled tongue set atop a gum rubber outsole, capturing the nostalgic feel of the era with contemporary construction.

The Failsworth SPZL draws inspiration from the rare adidas Barbados, featuring a suede build complemented by a T-toe design influenced by the vintage adidas Universal SL. The chocolate brown tongue branding nods to classic models produced in France. Similarly, the Roelee SPZL takes over from the Whalley SPZL with a revised shape that harmonizes elements from the Gazelle SPZL and Whalley. This iteration extends the T-toe overlay to the heel, yielding a sleeker silhouette and a more uniform structure.

Another model, the Pampanga SPZL, is a tribute to a less-known Made in Philippines design called the adidas Squire. It reinstates the original outsole while enhancing the upper for a snugger fit, particularly around the toe area. The shoe’s name honors the Filipino province of Pampanga, thereby acknowledging its often-overlooked production history.

Rounding out the footwear offerings is the A Aspden SPZL. This shoe references the Las Palmas tennis model and incorporates Hawaii tooling, while the upper design takes cues from various 1970s court shoes. As this is not a performance shoe associated with a specific athlete, the design team opted for a personalized touch by including the signature of Gary Aspden’s late father, a hand engraver known for his unique font and autograph, adding a distinctive personal dimension to the design.

The accompanying apparel maintains the collection’s identity while introducing refined details suitable for the upcoming season. The highlight is the Halewood SPZL Parka, featuring a lightweight nylon construction and tonal embroidery on the back, available in versatile forest green and black shades. Additional apparel pieces such as the Billinge SPZL Hoodie, Brockhall SPZL Tee, and Mod SPZL Tee continue the collection’s focused aesthetic, while the Hudswell SPZL Jacket and Shorts utilize ripstop fabric to modernize athletic staples. The Salesbury SPZL Trousers sport a tapered cut with zippered pockets and a relaxed half-cuff leg design. Lastly, the Wardour SPZL Vest offers a sleeveless option derived from the Wardour jacket, showcasing a tonal Mod Trefoil print.

Accessories complete the Spring Summer 2025 collection with practical additions. The ST10 SPZL Bag and matching Hip Bag are constructed from materials and color palettes reflective of the ST rain jackets. Furthermore, the Mod Trefoil SPZL Cap and a twin-pack of socks provide subtle yet stylish finishing touches.

Adidas SPZL’s Spring Summer 2025 collection will be available in limited quantities starting March 27 and will launch through the Confirmed app and select retail outlets.
