Affirm expands financing options in collaboration with StockX, allowing shoppers to manage payments for sought-after luxury brands.

Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider Affirm has announced a new collaboration with the resale marketplace StockX, marking an expansion of its payment options for consumers looking to purchase high-demand products from well-known brands. The partnership was officially revealed on March 10, 2024, and aims to enhance customer experience for eligible shoppers in the United States.

With the integration of Affirm’s payment plans, customers shopping on StockX can now opt for flexible financing when buying items from popular brands such as adidas, Supreme, and Gucci. Jacob Fenton, the vice president of customer experience and insights at StockX, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving the shopping experience. “At StockX, we’re always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience and ensure our community has access to the world’s most sought-after brands,” Fenton said in the announcement. He further noted that Affirm’s various payment options empower customers to select what suits their needs and allows them to “shop confidently.”

The collaboration allows shoppers to choose between biweekly or monthly payment plans during checkout, giving them the ability to customize their payment schedules. To celebrate the launch, both companies are offering eligible customers the opportunity to participate in the “Affirm 0% APR Drop,” which enables them to make purchases over three or six months without incurring interest.

Pat Suh, Affirm’s senior vice president of revenue, highlighted the growing demand for BNPL services, particularly in the fashion industry. “This partnership comes as demand for ‘Affirming’ apparel and accessories is higher than ever, with approximately 25% growth in these categories from October to December 2024,” Suh stated. He explained that the partnership provides a clearer and more flexible payment option at checkout, allowing consumers to avoid late fees and maintain control over their budgets.

This collaboration with StockX is part of a broader trend, as Affirm continues to form partnerships with various fashion merchants. Just prior to this announcement, Affirm partnered with Stitch Fix, indicating a significant uptick in consumer use of BNPL services for purchasing fashion items. Suh remarked on the surge in fashion sales through Affirm, noting a 20% increase year-over-year during the October to December period. This illustrates a shift toward smarter ways of paying for clothing and accessories, especially among consumers looking for manageable payment solutions.

Research conducted by PYMNTS Intelligence suggests that the appeal of BNPL options is especially strong among luxury shoppers, with many users citing cash flow management as a primary advantage. Approximately two-thirds of BNPL users reported that these payment options help them manage their finances more effectively, while about a third acknowledged that pay-over-time plans enable them to afford larger purchases.

As the demand for flexible payment solutions grows, Affirm’s latest collaboration with StockX highlights a significant trend in the retail landscape, where consumer preferences are increasingly shifting towards options that marry convenience with financial prudence.
