AJS introduces Gunold Green Line, a range of eco-friendly embroidery backings made from biodegradable and recycled materials, aimed at promoting sustainable textile solutions.

AJS, a specialist in embroidery and print supplies, has announced the launch of Gunold’s sustainable nonwoven embroidery backings in the UK. This new product line, known as Gunold Green Line, aims to provide eco-friendly alternatives for various textile applications.

These embroidery backings are crafted from a blend of biodegradable, recycled, and natural materials, addressing the growing demand for sustainable textile solutions. The Green Line range includes a variety of tearaway and cutaway backings available in multiple thicknesses, making them versatile for use in different fabrics. Suitable applications range from delicate blouses and stretchy T-shirt materials to more durable items like jackets, jeans, and artificial leather.

Each product within the Green Line collection boasts unique features that contribute to sustainable textile finishing. Some of the nonwovens utilize recycled polyester, while others are constructed from natural fibers. Additionally, certain products are biodegradable or compostable, enhancing their environmental viability.

The production of these nonwoven materials takes place in Germany, which aligns with sustainability principles by minimizing transportation distances within the EU. This production approach is instrumental in reducing CO2 emissions associated with longer shipping routes.

The Gunold Green Line products come with various industry certifications, ensuring their adherence to sustainable practices. These certifications include Oeko-Tex, GRS (Global Recycled Standard), PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), and DIN, which represents Germany’s equivalent of ISO standards. These certifications serve as assurance that the products meet strict ecological and quality criteria.

In contrast to traditional embroidery backings, which often incorporate polyester fibers that can dissolve during washing and contribute to environmental pollution through microplastics, the Gunold Green Line aims to minimize such negative impacts, promoting a more sustainable approach to textile finishing.
