Designer Alphonse Maitrepierre’s upcoming collection merges technology with nostalgia, showcasing innovative techniques and sustainable practices in fashion.
For the upcoming fall 2025 season, designer Alphonse Maitrepierre is set to reveal a collection that intricately weaves together the themes of technology and craftsmanship, while drawing inspiration from nostalgia and heritage. The collection was presented during a fashion show, where Maitrepierre aimed to evoke the sentiment often associated with heirloom garments, such as a grandparent’s fur coat or wedding dress.
Maitrepierre described the collection as a response to his previous showcase, which leaned heavily into technological innovation. “The idea was to go back to the concept of heritage. The idea of what’s going to remain after us. It’s already something that I always have in my mind, but this time, I wanted to make it for the world to see,” he stated in an interview with WWD.
The collection features a unique combination of materials and techniques. Upholstery brocades and leather have been meticulously laser-cut and layered, resulting in delicate and fluid garments. Additional innovation includes the transformation of jacquards, which have been sliced into fine strips to create an illusion of fur. Notably, the collection’s silhouettes draw inspiration from the iconic styles of the Swinging ‘60s and the Hippie ‘70s, merging historical aesthetics with modern craftsmanship.
Furthermore, a new logo was revealed, reminiscent of those associated with prestigious French luxury brands, reinforcing the collection’s connection to a sense of legacy. A significant aspect of this line is its commitment to sustainability; all materials used were sourced from Nona Source, a resale platform owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which specializes in materials from the conglomerate’s fashion and leather goods divisions. This initiative highlights a growing emphasis on eco-conscious practices within the fashion industry.
Additionally, the show featured custom designs for Converse, where Maitrepierre transformed the classic knee-high Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers with floral laser-cut embroidery. This detail echoed the broader thematic use of laser-cutting throughout the collection, showcasing a cohesive design aesthetic that resonates with contemporary and nostalgic elements alike.
