London: Rizzoli is publishing a book celebrating Ambush’s ten-year milestone, featuring insights from co-founder Yoon Ahn on revisiting the brand’s legacy. The upcoming collection features updated designs and playful elements, embodying both practicality and elegance as Ambush looks to the future.

In early November, Rizzoli is set to publish a commemorative book marking Ambush’s ten-year milestone in the fashion industry. Yoon Ahn, co-founder of the label, spoke to Vogue about her motivations for this retrospective, stating, “Sometimes you forget the things that you worked on; we tend to be more future-focused, we feel like, ‘ok the past is in the past let’s move on’, but I was realizing that there’s so many things we have done that people haven’t really connected to or they forget we had done them.” Ahn’s intention with the upcoming collection is to celebrate the brand’s legacy by revisiting and remixing elements from its archives.

The upcoming collection retains the playful essence characteristic of Ambush, while adopting a more mature aesthetic compared to previous offerings. Central to the lineup are an array of tracksuits, featuring styles made from velour with lace trim for added femininity, tie-dye and colour-blocked cotton, as well as innovative washed technical fabrics and coated cotton. As Ahn noted, “It’s about ease of movement and being active,” indicating that the designs are intended for practical, everyday wear.

Among the highlights of the collection is a flight jacket transformed into a hoodie, which Ahn describes as possessing an “unexpectedly elegant energy” due to its silhouette and the fabric’s unique shine and colouration. “It was washed and treated a few times to give it a really worn-in vibe,” she elaborated, emphasizing the thoughtful processes behind the designs.

Long-time followers of Ambush will recognise various pieces that draw from the label’s extensive archive, such as jackets and shorts that incorporate collaged football scarves and jerseys, as well as a workwear shirt and jeans crafted from woven diamond-print denim. Reflecting on the significance of the book release, Ahn expressed, “Releasing the book made me feel like, ok, that was one chapter, and now from here we’re going to jump into a new space.” This sentiment suggests Ambush is poised to evolve further as it steps into its next decade.
