The upcoming issue explores grand narratives and significant cultural contributions through fashion, art, and literature, featuring personalities like Cynthia Erivo and Colman Domingo.

AnOther Magazine is set to release its highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2025 issue, themed around the concept of “epic,” as articulated by editor-in-chief Susannah Frankel. This concept relates to grand narratives, significant impacts, and enduring legacies. Frankel states, “If these times feel, even as we live them, historic – for better or worse – we need epic heroes more than ever, to push our boundaries, test our limits, show us the way.” The issue showcases cultural icons and their contributions to the realms of fashion, art, and literature.

One of the focal points of the issue is Universal Pictures’ Broadway adaptation of “Wicked,” which has secured its reputation as the highest-grossing global debut in that category. The cover features Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Elphaba, the misunderstood heroine in the musical. Photographed by Nadine Ijewere and styled by Katie Shillingford, Erivo discusses the desire to resonate with audiences, saying, “There’s a deep understanding of what it feels like when you don’t fit in, what it feels like to constantly want to be accepted and not be accepted.” She emphasizes the importance of evoking both joy and introspection in viewers.

Another noteworthy feature is the film “Sing Sing,” directed by Greg Kwedar. Shot in just 19 days in decommissioned correctional facilities across the United States, this film captures the transformational power of creativity among prisoners. Colman Domingo, who has consistently garnered acclaim for his versatile performances across various platforms, is featured on the cover in a striking Valentino ensemble, photographed by Rahim Fortune and styled by Raphael Hirsch. Domingo reflects on his career path, stating, “In many ways, I’ve already made it. I just want to keep going where the challenges are.”

The issue also embraces the 40th anniversary of fashion house Dolce & Gabbana through their longtime muse Irina Shayk, who is photographed by Esther Theaker, showcasing the brand’s enduring impact on the fashion industry. Additionally, Hilton Als, an American author, guest-edits the Document section of the magazine, selecting passages from literary figures he admires such as Marcel Proust and James Baldwin, highlighting the intersection of past and present in literature.

Visual artist Ed Atkins, celebrated for his innovative approaches to storytelling through digital media, is featured alongside a discussion of his upcoming survey show in the UK at Tate Britain. Atkins, whose work often fuses literature, performance, and installation, is set to release a memoir titled “Flower,” published by Fitzcarraldo Editions.

The issue continues with a segment featuring models like Vittoria Ceretti, styled in Balenciaga, and Panos Yiapanis, who reflects on the loss of antique fashion pieces from his curated collection due to water damage. His collaboration with photographer Alasdair McLellan immortalizes these historical garments through captivating imagery.

Further, spotlighted are emerging voices in fashion, such as Aaron Esh and Rachel Scott, who share personal narratives about their journeys in the industry. Scott, a CFDA award winner for American Womenswear Designer of the Year, discusses her sacrifices, including investing her life savings in her label, Diotima, which draws philosophical inspiration from Plato and Freud.

AnOther Magazine’s latest issue promises a rich tapestry of storytelling, art, and fashion that not only exemplifies the theme of “epic” but also encapsulates a celebration of diverse talents shaping contemporary culture.
