The Arab World Institute has unveiled the Arab Fashion Award-IMA to spotlight emerging talents from the Arab world, aiming to enhance the visibility of underrepresented creators in the fashion industry.

The Arab World Institute (IMA) has announced the launch of the Arab Fashion Award-IMA, an innovative fashion competition designed to highlight and elevate emerging talents from the Arab world and their diasporas. The initiative seeks to increase visibility for this creative segment of the fashion industry that has historically been underrepresented.

Arab fashion has shown significant growth and recognition in recent years, exemplified by events such as Fashion Weeks in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Lebanon, and Morocco. Notably, a growing number of Arab-origin designers have gained attention on the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week, captivating fashion enthusiasts globally. The IMA, housed in a striking building designed by architect Jean Nouvel, aims to further showcase Arab culture in various forms and establish itself as a pivotal platform for young creators.

The competition includes two distinct categories: the “Emerging Talent” award, which will honor a promising new designer whose creativity and style distinguish them, and the “Innovative Talent” award, focused on designers who are pushing the boundaries of fashion through the use of novel materials, advanced techniques, or sustainable practices.

Eligibility for participants includes individuals from Arab League countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, and Morocco, as well as those from the diasporas of these nations. The IMA has emphasized a commitment to eco-responsibility and social engagement, indicating that projects reflecting these values will be given preferential consideration.

Applications for the awards will be accepted until June 15, 2025, via the IMA’s official website. A selection committee will review submissions in July and will shortlist ten finalists for each category. The final winners will be announced in October during Paris Fashion Week, as determined by a jury featuring prominent figures from the fashion industry, including Pascal Morand, Executive President of the Federation of Haute Couture and Fashion, and renowned Lebanese designer Rabih Kayrouz.

As the fashion community anticipates the unveiling of new talents, the IMA’s initiative promises to shine a light on the rich and dynamic contributions of Arab fashion to the global stage.
