ASOS announces significant organizational changes, including new managing directors and a streamlined structure aimed at improving customer engagement and operational effectiveness.

ASOS has announced significant leadership changes aimed at enhancing its operational effectiveness and driving growth in a customer-focused framework. The company has appointed Sean Trend, previously the Senior Vice President for North America, to the role of Managing Director for both the UK and US markets. This move is part of a broader strategy that includes a shift to a geography-based organizational structure, allowing for more localized strategies that tailor their approach to specific markets.

In addition to Trend’s promotion, ASOS has named Jag Weatherley as Managing Director for Europe and the Rest of the World. These appointments follow what ASOS describes as “strong” strategic progress, as outlined in a recent report. The company has made strides in significantly reducing stock levels, enhancing the quality of its product offerings, refinancing its debt, and improving operational efficiency and profitability.

The new streamlined structure is designed to place the customer at the center of ASOS’s initiatives, accelerating decision-making and fostering a culture of ongoing innovation and refinement. The first phase of these structural changes targeted the company’s technology function during the first quarter of FY25, with the goal of creating a more “agile” and “effective” framework for serving customers.

The technology division has been further bolstered with the recent appointment of Przemek Czarnecki as Executive Vice President of Technology. Czarnecki brings three decades of experience in digital engineering and management, with a strong emphasis on e-commerce. His most recent position was Vice President of Software Engineering at Zalando, a prominent online fashion retailer.

Further strategic initiatives include the consolidation of commercial and customer functions under a single team aimed at enhancing the customer journey both on-site and off-site. This effort will be led by a new Executive Vice President for Commercial & Customer, although the specific individual has yet to be named.

ASOS is also refining its brand and creative strategy to establish a cohesive vision for the company, which will be overseen by EVP Brand & Creative, Vanessa Spence, who was previously Executive Vice President of Creative.

In a move to strengthen the Topshop and Topman brands as independent entities, ASOS has launched a specialized cross-functional team. This initiative will be led by Michelle Wilson, who previously served as Chief of Staff and Strategy and now takes on the role of Managing Director for Topshop & Topman. Wilson will also oversee ASOS’s global wholesale business, which includes key partnerships with major retailers such as Nordstrom in the US and Reliance Retail in India.

Additionally, ASOS has consolidated its divisions for people, corporate affairs, and strategy to enhance alignment in strategic decision-making and communication. Ras Vaghjiani, formerly EVP of People Experience, will take the helm as EVP of People, Communications & Strategy, supported by Rishi Sharma, who has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Strategy.

All organizational changes will take effect in April 2025, with the goal of streamlining decision-making processes, empowering teams, and enhancing ASOS’s responsiveness to market opportunities. ASOS’s Chief Executive Officer, José Antonio Ramos Calamonte, expressed optimism about these developments, stating, “These changes represent an exciting new chapter for ASOS. By reorganizing and focusing on our strengths, we’re better equipped to seize opportunities and accelerate our growth.”

Ramos emphasized the value of the company’s teams, noting that the organizational updates are intended to effectively harness their talents and dedication. He projected a commitment to innovation and collaboration, underscoring ASOS’s goal of becoming the preferred destination for fashion-conscious individuals in their twenties.
