Denver: FashioNation marks its grand re-opening after 35 years, uniting long-time fans and new customers. The Italianos, now leading the store, continue to blend punk and alternative fashion with community initiatives, ensuring their beloved brand remains a hub for expression and creativity.

For over 35 years, FashioNation has played a crucial role in shaping Denver’s punk and alternative fashion scene. The store’s recent grand re-opening on August 31st was a vibrant celebration of both its storied past and its promising future. The event attracted a mix of long-time patrons and newcomers, eager to discover what lies ahead for this iconic retail brand.

FashioNation’s origins date back to 1987 when it was founded by Pam and Paul Italiano, who were passionate fans of both punk music and alternative fashion. What began as a space to “hang out with friends, listen to music, and play store” soon evolved into a cornerstone of Denver’s alternative culture. “We had no idea that our venture would persist and thrive for more than three decades,” the Italianos reflected. Their dedication to a community-centric ethos made FashioNation a safe haven for individuals looking to express their true selves through fashion.

As the store matured, it transformed into more than just a retail space. It became a hub for like-minded enthusiasts, fostering connections among those who gravitate towards non-conformity. “People that have spent their lives shopping at the store are now bringing in their kids and grandkids to show off their wild sides,” the Italianos noted, highlighting the evolving legacy of the brand through generations.

In recent years, with Pam and Paul’s children, Sydney and Mia Italiano, taking charge, FashioNation has adapted to the ever-evolving landscape of alternative fashion. It now features a diverse array of clothing, from punk and goth essentials to rave attire catering to Denver’s thriving EDM scene. The relocation to 1745 S Broadway has brought an enhanced shopping experience, showcasing a redesigned interior that merges fashion with art, complete with bold murals and neon accents.

“We love our new location. As with any move, there are adjustments, but we are settling into our forever home well,” expressed the Italiano family. They emphasise their ongoing commitment to providing a unique shopping experience, seeing each visitor as part of their extended family.

FashioNation is not just a retail outlet; it is deeply engaged in community-building initiatives. The store hosts a variety of events that enrich the local culture, serving as a gathering place for Denver’s alternative communities. Popular events include Punk Rock Flea Markets, which curate local vendors and underground music, and Live DJ Nights that create an energetic backdrop for shopping and socialising. The emergence of Pop-Up Art Shows within the store has also allowed local artists to display their creations, reinforcing the store’s ethos of embracing the creative spirit of punk culture.

As the store moves forward following its grand re-opening, the Italianos are enthusiastic about expanding both their in-store and online inventory. Their focus remains on collaborating with fresh designers while preserving their commitment to uniqueness and community involvement. “For the future, we are sticking to what we have been doing. Staying small and involved in our community is what is important to us,” they asserted.

FashioNation continues to be a pivotal part of Denver’s fashion landscape, serving as a platform for punk, goth, grunge, and beyond. It is located at 1745 S Broadway and is open from Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The store encourages followers on social media to stay informed about events, exclusive sales, and new product launches, further establishing its position as an influential entity in the city’s dynamic fashion scene.
