The inaugural Citizen Sharing Market in Busan aims to promote recycling and environmental awareness through a variety of activities and sales of recycled items.

The city of Busan is set to host its inaugural Citizen Sharing Market today, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Song Sang-hyun Square. This event aims to serve as a vibrant platform for citizens, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations to sell a variety of recycled items, including clothes, bags, books, and daily necessities.

This market is part of a larger initiative that emphasizes resource recycling and environmental protection, marking a significant annual event since its inception in 2003. Organizers are hopeful that the market will encourage community members to engage in sustainable practices by providing a venue for the exchange of goods that would otherwise go to waste.

In addition to the sales, the Citizen Sharing Market will host a variety of experiential activities designed to promote environmental awareness. Attendees can take part in waste battery exchange initiatives as well as educational programs on waste separation. Notably, there will be a children’s marketplace, where young participants can engage in hands-on craft activities aimed at teaching them about environmental stewardship.

The multifaceted nature of the event focuses on fostering a culture of sustainable living within the community. Additionally, there are plans for small-scale sharing markets to be piloted in districts such as Nam-gu and Geumjeong-gu, signifying the city’s ongoing commitment to resource reuse and social welfare.

The event is anticipated to draw attention not only for its sustainability efforts but also for its aim to strengthen community ties through shared values and educational experiences.
