Arequipa: The ‘Success Meeting – Sustainable Edition’ brought together entrepreneurs and experts to discuss circular economy initiatives. Highlighted by James Guevara’s innovative plastic recycling project, the event showcased practical strategies and the introduction of a new credit line aimed at supporting sustainable initiatives.
On Wednesday, February 12, Caja Arequipa hosted the “Success Meeting – Sustainable Edition” at the Arequipa Chamber of Commerce. This event was designed to advance discussions around the circular economy and to encourage sustainable project initiatives within the region. Attendees exchanged experiences and strategies on how to effectively convert waste into valuable resources, illustrating how various challenges can be transformed into viable business opportunities.
A standout moment during the event was the presentation by special guest James Guevara, who introduced his forward-thinking project titled “Transforming Plastic Wood.” This innovative initiative involves recycling plastic materials into functional products such as tables and desks, which emulate the properties of traditional wood. Guevara’s work aims to mitigate environmental impacts through the practical reuse of materials.
Among the participants, several micro-entrepreneurs affiliated with Caja Arequipa contributed by sharing their own success stories relating to the utilisation of second-hand products. Mirsia Gutiérrez elaborated on her initiative to convert solid waste into packaging material, offering an environmentally friendly and effective solution. Duez Estrada showcased his production of dice and nuts for vehicles crafted from recycled materials, demonstrating innovation within the sustainable automotive sector. Víctor Flores spoke about his process of generating organic fertiliser from chicken manure, highlighting its role in promoting environmental stewardship. Collectively, these narratives illustrated the profitability of the circular economy while reinforcing the potential for business growth that aligns with ecological sustainability.
In conjunction with these presentations, analysts from Caja Arequipa received specialised training focused on sustainability and circular economy strategies. This effort aims to deepen their understanding of these business models and to amplify their positive contributions.
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Caja Arequipa also unveiled Crediciclo, a credit line specifically targeting projects centred on reuse, repair, renovation, and recycling. This initiative is intended to support a more equitable and environmentally responsible approach to economic development in the region.
