Tal Simon brings her curated collection of vintage and new Chanel pieces to Columbus, showcasing her journey from law to fashion.
In a celebration of entrepreneurship and a showcase of fashion, Tal Simon, the owner of The Sybariterian, is bringing her curated collection of vintage and new Chanel pieces to the Columbus community. Since launching her business, she has become a notable figure in the local fashion scene, merging her passion for designer fashion with her professional background in law.
Raised in South Florida, Simon relocated to Columbus after meeting her husband during their time in Manhattan. She attended George Washington University before pursuing her dreams in the performing arts as a hopeful Radio City Rockette. However, her career took a turn when she deferred law school for several years to chase that opportunity. Eventually, she settled back in Columbus, earned her law degree, and began practicing as a transactional ERISA attorney with a firm based in Chicago.
In an interview with the “Wardrobe Therapy Blog,” Simon detailed her journey, highlighting her three children—Ronan, who is 7, Aidan, aged 5, and Areli, who is 3—as her greatest personal achievement. Her foray into the world of fashion began as a motivating factor during her demanding law career, where sleepless nights working on mergers and acquisitions led her to reward herself with designer shoes. As her interest grew, she transitioned from shoes to collecting Chanel bags, recognizing a gap in the market for both vintage and new pieces in central Ohio.
Recognizing a need for a local supplier of authentic Chanel items, Simon established The Sybariterian. She noted that “central Ohio has limited access to new and preloved Chanel and consignment fees are prohibitive through traditional reselling channels.” With this in mind, she focused on providing clients in her community with authentic Chanel pieces that they could see and try before buying. She collaborates with local businesses, including Ladybird, which showcases her collection in their store. “There was instant synergy,” she explained, referring to her partnership with Ladybird’s owner, Allison.
To ensure her products’ authenticity, Simon sources vintage items primarily from suppliers in Japan, a country known for its strict regulations against the sale of counterfeit goods. She employs the industry standard authentication service, Entrupy, and guarantees the authenticity of all items sold, instilling confidence in her clients.
Simon shared her fondness for her vintage small classic flap bag, describing it as “the perfect size to transition from casual to fancy and day to night,” while also being affordable.
In a notable community event, The Sybariterian’s Chanel collection will be featured in a fashion show at the Muirfield Village Country Club, happening this Sunday. The event will also showcase apparel from Ladybird and highlight several local businesses, reinforcing the collaborative spirit within the Columbus small business community. Other participating vendors include So Ordered, Cuffed by Nano, The 1 Fitness, and Bobbie’s Shoppe, among others.
As Simon continues to impact both the fashion industry and the local economy, her venture is positioned not only as a business but also as a celebration of community and collaboration.
