Brooklyn designer Christine Alcalay is set to launch her first footwear collection featuring versatile styles inspired by her travels in Peru.

Christine Alcalay, a womenswear designer based in Brooklyn, is set to expand her brand by launching a new footwear collection on March 27, which will feature two distinct styles. Known primarily for her tailored women’s suiting and separates, this marks Alcalay’s inaugural foray into the shoe industry.

In a conversation with Footwear News, Alcalay detailed the inspiration behind her shoe designs, stating, “It all started on my first trip to Peru. I came across a small, family-owned shoe manufacturer and was immediately intrigued by their craftsmanship and the impeccable quality of their shoes. For me, everything begins with quality and relationships — two pillars that guide my design process.”

During the past year, Alcalay and her team have collaborated with the Lima-based factory to refine two main silhouettes in her collection: the Masha, an open-back leather mule, and the Lucille, a braided leather slingback heel. The prices for these offerings will range from $395 to $429.

“The slingback, for instance, is designed with intricate hand-braided detailing and is available in red and cream colorways, while the peep-toe mule comes in light blue and shell,” Alcalay explained. The color selections were made to harmonize with both her current and previous collections.

Alcalay emphasized the importance of versatility and comfort in her designs, stating, “When designing this collection, I thought about the shoes I always turn to, the ones that effortlessly take me from place to place, offering both comfort and versatility without sacrificing elegance.” She aims to create shoes that not only complete an outfit but also facilitate the daily movement of women, expressing her desire for each piece to feel intentional.

Looking ahead, Alcalay indicated that this initial launch is just the beginning for her footwear line. “This first launch set the foundation, but I’m already thinking about what comes next. I’m developing the perfect flat — one that’s effortless but polished, something you can slip into daily without a second thought,” she said, also revealing plans for a boot in the future.

“I see footwear as an essential part of the CA world — shoes that don’t just complement my clothing but stand on their own as pieces that women cherish,” Alcalay added.

The upcoming footwear collection will be available exclusively at Christine Alcalay stores and on her website, ChristineAlcalay.com.
