Southern Maryland: The Cinderella Society is hosting a free formalwear distribution event on March 15 and 16 to provide students with outfits for prom. Co-founders Brittany and Katrina are committed to ensuring every young person can attend formal events with confidence and style, reducing waste in the fashion industry.
Cinderella Society, a charitable initiative originally launched before the COVID-19 pandemic, is revitalising its mission to provide free formalwear to students across Southern Maryland. Co-founders Brittany and Katrina have faced several challenges since the pandemic but are now committed to ensuring that no young person misses out on the chance to dress for prom and other formal events.
“Prom and formal events are milestones, and we believe everyone should have the chance to dress up, have fun, and make incredible memories,” stated Katrina, emphasising the significance of these events for students. The community’s support has been pivotal in enabling Cinderella Society to continue its work, facilitating beautiful moments for local youth “one dress and suit at a time.”
With prom season approaching, Cinderella Society is set to host a free formalwear distribution event on March 15 and 16, from 10 AM to 4 PM, at Tolerance Hall located at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. This initiative is designed to assist students in finding the perfect outfit for their unforgettable night.
Cinderella Society’s mission extends beyond merely offering clothing; it aims to foster confidence and create memories for each participant. “We love knowing these clothes get another chance to make someone’s night magical,” Brittany commented, highlighting the sustainability aspect of their work. By giving second-hand dresses and suits neues leases on life, the organisation not only promotes responsible fashion choices but also reduces waste in the fashion industry.
The programme is actively seeking donations of formalwear, including prom dresses, suits, formal shoes, costume jewellery, ties, and other accessories, with a clear emphasis on no casual wear. A list of donation locations has been established across the region, including permanent drop-off sites in St. Mary’s, Calvert, and Charles Counties.
In addition to clothing donations, Cinderella Society encourages the community to contribute by sharing information about their mission via word of mouth and social media. The broader the reach, the more young individuals can benefit from this initiative, stepping into their special night’s attire with confidence and style.
