Coachtopia has unveiled an innovative pop-up at Bloomingdale’s in New York City, highlighting sustainable and circular fashion through unique collections and interactive experiences.
Coachtopia has debuted a vibrant pop-up experience at Bloomingdale’s flagship store located on 59th Street in New York City. The pop-up, titled The Carousel @ Bloomingdale’s Coachtopia, was launched on a Thursday and will remain open to the public until April 30. This installation aims to highlight Coach’s commitment to sustainability and circular fashion through a mix of products and interactive experiences. The initiative aligns with the overarching goal of promoting a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.
The pop-up features various innovative items from Coachtopia, particularly the Alter/Ego collection, which showcases bags made from leather scraps generated during the production of popular Coach styles such as the Tabby, Hampton, and Brooklyn. These clever repurposing efforts significantly reduce carbon footprints, achieving up to 80 percent less impact when compared to traditional styles made from new materials. Another highlighted collection is the Coachtopia Loop, crafted with at least 98 percent recycled PET plastic and designed to facilitate multiple cycles of recycling.
Frank Berman, Bloomingdale’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Coach, stating, “Our longtime partner Coach is really hot right now. Our customers are really asking about the brand.” He emphasized that the collaboration with Coachtopia aligns well with Bloomingdale’s commitment to sustainability through its B the Change initiative.
Joon Silverstein, Chief Marketing Officer of Coach, reflected on the vision behind Coachtopia: “We’ve created Coachtopia as both a new world of circular fashion and a collaborative platform for change.” This partnership showcases a mission-driven approach to transforming waste into desirable fashion items, aimed at reaching consumers in more engaging and educational ways.
The physical space for the pop-up occupies 1,600 square feet on the main floor of Bloomingdale’s and also includes displays in the store’s Lexington Avenue windows. An array of activities and collaborations are planned for the weekends during the pop-up’s duration. For instance, on March 22, patrons can enjoy drinks from OM Juice Bar and music from DJ Sophia Ziskin, while cotton candy will be provided by Fluff & Fluff during the April 5 event. Notable community-focused events, such as a Trashy charm bar featuring local creatives Mecca McDonald and Mia Dunn of Mo.NaGems, will also take place.
Over the course of the pop-up, shoppers will find 57 distinct stock keeping units, which also include eight ready-to-wear pieces, with prices ranging from $75 to $295. In addition, customers purchasing Coachtopia products will receive a limited-edition dustbag made from 100 percent recycled materials, further enhancing the immersive experience offered.
The entire installation not only promotes sustainable fashion but was also constructed with recyclable materials. Silverstein mentioned that the shelves are built from 100 percent recycled plastic, and signage is created from recycled neon. Both Bloomingdale’s and Coach collaborated to ensure that the pop-up is not just a retail space but an educational experience for consumers regarding the importance of sustainability in fashion.
Educational initiatives include an interactive wall illustrating how iconic Coach products are transformed into Coachtopia bags and a video screen showcasing the campaign “The Wasted Parts,” featuring actor Lola Tung.
Coachtopia’s pop-up marks its first wholesale venture in North America after prior successes in European venues such as Selfridges and Zalando. Silverstein highlighted the opportunity this collaboration provides to engage a new audience, aiming to make circular fashion more accessible. With a strong emphasis on community involvement and sustainability, this pop-up is designed not only as a retail experience but as a platform for environmental consciousness in the fashion industry.
