Colombia: A Kantar study reveals that 68% of Colombians consider sustainability vital in purchasing choices, driving a shift towards responsible consumption. Experts encourage eco-friendly practices, while companies like Grupo Familia are leading with initiatives such as eco-friendly product lines to support environmental preservation.
The increasing awareness of sustainability among Colombian consumers has been highlighted by a recent study conducted by Kantar, which indicates a notable shift towards responsible consumption. The study, titled “Who Care Who Does 2024,” reveals that an impressive 68% of Colombians now regard sustainability as a crucial factor in their purchasing decisions. This trend underscores a growing environmental awareness and a commitment within society to adopt more sustainable consumption practices.
The report, featured in “Vivir en El Poblado,” suggests that individuals can make a significant contribution to environmental preservation through their daily choices. Experts have provided several recommendations to enhance consumer decision-making in an eco-friendly direction. These include the promotion of recycling and proper waste disposal, advocating for the selection of sustainable products through informed research, and reducing reliance on single-use plastics by opting for reusable alternatives.
Additionally, supporting companies that engage in social responsibility initiatives is encouraged. Andres Felipe Patiño, an Environmental Engineer at Grupo Familia, an Essity company, remarked, “It is pertinent to recognize that every consumption decision has an impact. Opting for sustainable products and supporting companies committed to the environment and society not only contributes to the preservation of the planet but also promotes more equitable and responsible economic and social development.”
In illustrating positive trends in sustainable consumerism, Grupo Familia has introduced a line of eco-friendly products under the brand Familia Green. These products are made entirely from 100% recycled fibres and are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC-R), ensuring their origin from responsible sources and promoting fair working conditions. The brand’s production process includes materials gathered through the ‘Recycling with Purpose’ programme, which directly supports recycling organisations.
Carlos Vélez, the Marketing Director Tissue A&C at Grupo Familia, notes, “With Familia Green, we not only offer high-quality solutions but also improve the environmental performance of our products and processes, and reduce the impact on the planet.” This initiative demonstrates an effective model of sustainable production that not only addresses environmental concerns but also supports local communities and the circular economy.
As the demand for sustainable products continues to rise, the commitment to eco-friendly practices among companies and consumers alike is likely to have far-reaching implications for environmental conservation and social development in Colombia.
