The prestigious theater will host weekly sales of carefully curated costumes, allowing enthusiasts to own a piece of theatrical history.

The Comédie-Française is set to enchant theater aficionados and fashion enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to purchase historic costumes directly from its reserves. Beginning January 30, 2025, the esteemed institution will hold weekly sales every Thursday at 12 p.m., offering around ten curated costumes for sale in its adjacent shop until stock lasts.

This initiative promises to showcase an array of garments, including embroidered dresses, tailored shirts, leather overcoats, elegant tailcoats, and distinguished uniforms. Each item on display serves as a testament to the rich legacy of the Comédie-Française and its influential role in the history of French theater.

The costumes are crafted in the Comédie-Française’s workshops and have been worn on stage by various artists from the renowned Troupe. After their theatrical use, these pieces are meticulously cataloged and stored, preserving the stories behind them. Each costume comes with a label detailing the name of the actor who donned it, the title of the play, the year of the performance, and a price that ranges from €50 to €500, making these historically significant items accessible to a broad audience.

The weekly sales are anticipated to attract those keen on vintage fashion as well as those interested in the cultural heritage of French theater. Such events provide an extraordinary chance not only to admire but also to acquire pieces associated with some of the greatest names and performances in the theater’s history.

As the dates draw closer, the Comédie-Française invites both seasoned collectors and newcomers to this charming spectacle, which captures the essence of theatrical artistry and its sartorial splendor.
