The Portland-based workwear brand collaborates with John Deere to launch a new collection tailored for women in the agricultural sector, addressing the gap in workwear options.
Dovetail Workwear, a Portland-based women’s workwear brand, has launched a new collection in partnership with John Deere, a well-known American manufacturer specializing in agricultural machinery and heavy equipment. The unveiling took place on Wednesday, and the collaboration aims to provide workwear solutions specifically tailored for women in the agricultural sector.
As highlighted by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, women represent a significant portion of the agricultural workforce; they account for 36 percent of U.S. farmers and hold leadership roles on 56 percent of farms. However, despite their growing presence in the industry, options for workwear that cater to their specific needs remain scarce. Sara DeLuca, co-founder of Dovetail Workwear, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in addressing this gap. “Dovetail’s focus on women allows the brand to innovate with their needs in mind, delivering the best possible solutions,” DeLuca stated in an interview with Sourcing Journal.
The newly launched collection features six essential pieces, including two-way stretch bootcut jeans, bandanas, and overalls offered in various colorways. The development process involved direct collaboration with female farmers through surveys, focus groups, and wear testing. DeLuca noted that the brands were “laser focused” on perfecting the fit and using performance stretch fabrics to accommodate the unique demands of women working in agriculture.
The jeans included in the collection boast features designed for functionality and comfort, such as split hems for a boot-friendly fit, reinforced back pockets, and the EZWaist, Dovetail’s signature waistband that offers flexibility.
Lauren Willis, the global director of brand licensing at John Deere, commented on the partnership, stating, “Deere’s collaboration with Dovetail is born from real conversations with women doing real work. Through this workwear line, we hope to help women in agriculture feel great as they dress for the busy and unique lives they lead.”
The collaboration not only aims to enhance the workwear options available for women in agriculture but also expands Dovetail’s understanding of its consumer base. “Many of the needed attributes of work gear for farmers are important to women working in other fields and will influence future inline products,” DeLuca added.
The Dovetail Workwear x John Deere capsule collection is priced between $25 and $139 and is currently available for purchase on Dovetail’s official website.
