Designer Duran Lantink has been appointed as the new creative director of Jean Paul Gaultier, with his first collection debuting at Paris Women’s Fashion Week.
Designer Duran Lantink has been announced as the new creative director of the iconic fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier. The Netherlands-born designer is set to unveil his prêt-à-porter collection on September 25, 2023, during Paris Women’s Fashion Week. Following this launch, Lantink is scheduled to present his haute couture collection in January 2026.
Duran Lantink, who established his own brand DURAN LANTINK in 2016, has made a significant impact in the fashion industry with his innovative approach to upcycling. His work involves reimagining existing garments and leftover textiles, transforming them into entirely new fashion pieces. This unique design philosophy has earned Lantink notable recognition, including a special prize at the 2023 ANDAM Fashion Award and the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Prize at the 2024 LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize.
Speaking on his appointment, Jean Paul Gaultier took to Instagram to express his enthusiasm. He stated, “I feel in him the energy, boldness, and playfulness that I had at the beginning of my journey through fashion. He is the enfant terrible of the fashion world. Welcome, Duran.”
Lantink’s ascent to the helm of Gaultier comes at a transformative time for the storied brand, which has long been celebrated for its avant-garde designs and boundary-pushing aesthetics. The fashion industry awaits with great anticipation as Lantink prepares to take the creative reins and reinvigorate the legacy of Jean Paul Gaultier.
