Mended, a Dutch clothing repair platform, is expanding in Germany through a new partnership with Tom Tailor, offering sustainable garment repair services aligned with EU regulations and shifting consumer demands.

Mended, a Dutch online platform specializing in clothing alterations and repairs, is expanding its footprint in Germany through a new partnership with Hamburg-based retailer Tom Tailor. This collaboration follows Mended’s initial successful launch in Germany nearly a year ago, in May 2024, when it partnered with the Cologne-based sustainable brand Armedangels. That first partnership saw immediate success, generating 100 repair orders within just 15 minutes.

The new alliance with Tom Tailor is part of the retailer’s ‘BE-Part’ sustainability strategy and loyalty program, aligning with increased demand for repair services. This demand is influenced by evolving European Union regulations, such as the “Right to Repair,” the Circular Economy Act, and the Circular Economy Action Plan, alongside consumers seeking practical and sustainable solutions in fashion. Mended describes repair services not as a trend but as a necessity in today’s market.

Agnes Weber, co-founder of Mended, highlighted the significance of this partnership in a recent press release, saying, “We are not known for just fixing clothes — but how we engage customers and reposition repair as a desirable choice. Our partnership with Tom Tailor is a major milestone and shows that repair is becoming the new standard for fashion companies.”

Customers can access the repair services by booking online through Tom Tailor’s dedicated repair portal. The service begins at a fee of 7.99 euros plus shipping and is available to all Tom Tailor customers starting immediately. Loyalty members benefit from additional perks, including up to 20 percent off their first repair. After booking, customers receive a QR code that enables them to drop off their garments at local post points. All repairs are conducted within Germany by Mended’s tailors, avoiding cross-border shipping, and repaired items are shipped back to customers within ten days.

Mended reports that 72 percent of their users are first-time repair customers, with this number growing steadily as more brands promote repair services through marketing and loyalty initiatives. Studies referenced by Mended show that 64 percent of consumers prefer to access repair services directly from the brands they shop with, valuing the convenience alongside environmental benefits.

Maximilian Zippel, head of consumer engagement D2C at Tom Tailor, emphasized the strategic nature of the collaboration: “We are testing today what could be standard tomorrow. Repair goes beyond sustainability but can also play a key role in our loyalty programme.” He expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to elevate the perception of repair in the fashion industry.

Mended aims to modernize the public perception of clothing repair, which currently carries an outdated image. Weber explained, “We need to move away from this dusty image and create new, appealing talking points. Shopping is an experience, but repair was not — so we changed that.” Part of this transformation includes delivering repaired garments with special packaging designed to replicate the excitement of unboxing new purchases, enhancing customer experience.

Founded in 2022 by Agnes Weber and Daan Maasson in the Netherlands, Mended has completed thousands of repairs and was awarded Newcomer of the Year 2025. The company markets itself as a circular service platform that makes extending the life of clothing as appealing as buying new. Along with repair, Mended offers alterations, resale, as well as branding and marketing services, partnering with sustainable brands such as Kings of Indigo, Mud Jeans, and Armedangels.

In addition to its business-to-business services for fashion brands, Mended operates a smaller-scale direct-to-consumer service, primarily to gather data about consumer repair preferences. Weber noted, “It gives us insights into which brands consumers want to have repaired, and we can also use this information to approach potential clients.” The expansion into Tom Tailor’s network marks a significant step forward for Mended’s presence in the German market.
