Paris: Eastman NaiaTM unveiled its sustainable NaiaTM Renew fibres at Première Vision, demonstrating the potential for eco-friendly practices in fashion. The event highlighted partnerships with mills in Europe, aiming to promote circularity and reduce environmental footprints in textile manufacturing.
At the recent Première Vision Paris, Eastman NaiaTM showcased its innovative NaiaTM Renew staple fibers, highlighting their potential to revolutionise the fashion industry through sustainable practices. This event stood as a platform for Eastman to underscore the significance of eco-conscious textile manufacturing while presenting luxurious, fashionable options to environmentally aware consumers.
NaiaTM Renew staple fibers, composed of 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% recycled waste materials, are produced through a low-impact, closed-loop process, maintaining the industry’s increasing demand for sustainability. Traditionally renowned for its silky aesthetic as a filament, the introduction of the NaiaTM staple version has expanded its possibilities for fashion applications. These fibres are designed for a range of fabrics, both woven and knitted, and can be blended with premium materials such as wool, cashmere, and linen, thereby enhancing the textiles in terms of comfort, durability, and performance.
Visitors to Eastman’s stand (6R30) explored a curated collection of fabrics and garments developed in collaboration with various partners, illustrating how NaiaTM has become a staple in modern wardrobes. These commercial applications were showcased under the slogan “Sustainable Style, your way,” reflecting Eastman’s commitment to blending performance with aesthetic appeal in their products.
The collaborations announced at Première Vision with esteemed mills in Europe signify a crucial step towards mainstreaming circularity within the fashion sector. By emphasising nearshoring, these partnerships contribute to reducing lead times, streamlining logistics, and minimising transportation emissions, which collectively work to diminish the environmental footprint associated with textile production. For instance, Riopele from Portugal and Pakipek from Turkey have adopted NaiaTM Renew fibres in their textile manufacturing processes to create sustainable spun yarns and women’s wear fabrics.
A representative from Riopele articulated this commitment, stating, “At Riopele, through the aim of innovation and creativity, we transformed NaiaTM Renew fiber into sustainable spun yarns and created differentiating fabrics with outstanding performance.” This partnership with Eastman was characterised as a key milestone in their sustainability journey, demonstrating the power of collaboration across various sectors to foster a more circular economy.
Likewise, representatives from Pakipek discussed how their partnership with Eastman helped in producing staple fibre products that prioritise eco-friendliness and comfort: “We took pride in contributing to a more sustainable future for a better world.” This illustrates a significant trend towards environmentally responsible fashion practices that leverage innovative materials for a higher standard of sustainability.
Eastman NaiaTM’s engagements at Première Vision not only highlight the potential of recycled and sustainable fibers but also the company’s broader vision to inspire a global movement towards responsible textile manufacturing. They assert that by working with leading mills like Riopele and Pakipek, they create high-quality textiles that combine performance, aesthetics, and responsibility, thus paving the way for a more sustainable future in fashion.
