In honor of Earth Month, Eileen Fisher’s new Indigo Overdye Collection features 155 unique secondhand garments, promoting sustainability through traditional dyeing techniques.
In anticipation of Earth Month, Eileen Fisher is set to launch a new collection that emphasizes sustainability and circular fashion. The Indigo Overdye Collection, debuting on Tuesday, features a total of 155 secondhand garments overdyed using traditional techniques by Seattle-based dye experts, Botanical Colors. Consumers will be able to find these unique pieces primarily on the website eileenfisherrenew.com, alongside a curated selection of 25 items available on eileenfisher.com throughout April. Additionally, select pieces from the collection will be showcased at Eileen Fisher’s Renew stores located in Seattle and Irvington, New York.
The garments included in this collection were sourced through Eileen Fisher’s Renew program, an initiative designed to encourage customers to return gently used Eileen Fisher clothing for recycling or transformation into new designs. Since its inception in 2009, the Renew program has successfully collected over two million garments, aligning with the brand’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Botanical Colors, established in 2010 by expert dyer Kathy Hattori, has worked in partnership with Eileen Fisher since 2014. This collaboration has produced small batch designs centered around natural dyeing processes. Their first collection, launched in 2016, was well-received in Renew’s stores, leading to subsequent collections, including the Indigo Overdye Collection introduced last April.
Carmen Gama, the director of circular design at Eileen Fisher, emphasized the popularity of the Indigo Overdye collections among customers, stating, “Over the years, the collection has received incredible enthusiasm from our customers. They love the uniqueness and the rich indigo hues of each hand dyed piece. They always sell out fast.” Gama noted that the collaboration with Botanical Colors enhances the craftsmanship while adhering to shared values of sustainability.
The new Indigo Overdye Collection features retail prices ranging from $155 to $175. Gama also articulated a broader vision through these initiatives, reflecting “Eileen Fisher’s commitment to extending the life of clothing and reducing waste.” She explained that producing items in small batches allows the brand to focus on quality and intentional design, inviting customers to purchase pieces that contribute positively to environmental efforts. Each garment in this collection aims to tell a story of renewal while remaining true to the brand’s circular values.
