Celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart is launching a capsule collection with Lilysilk, featuring sustainable designs aimed at travel-friendly and virtual meeting attire.
International celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart is set to launch an exclusive capsule collection in collaboration with Lilysilk, a brand renowned for its luxurious silk garments, sleepwear, and home essentials. The collection, comprising 11 distinctive styles, is scheduled to debut on Friday, available for purchase online at lilysilk.com as well as at Lilysilk’s first flagship store located at 654 Hudson Street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
Stewart’s extensive experience as a stylist includes working with A-list celebrities like Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Gal Gadot, and Sandra Bullock. With a career that began at the Paris office of Women’s Wear Daily and W Magazine, she transitioned to the New York Times Magazine and the Style Section for 12 years before relocating to Los Angeles, where she launched her styling career two decades ago.
In discussing her partnership with Lilysilk, Stewart emphasized the brand’s commitment to sustainability. “They’re a great blouse resource. I was using their blouses for my clients. I try to do as much as I can to be sustainable… I noticed in starting to work with them [Lilysilk] they do their best in using sustainable suppliers, they’re a member of GOTS (The Global Organic Textile Standards) and I like that,” she stated speaking to Women’s Wear Daily.
Founded in 2010 and based in China, Lilysilk has made a name for itself in the luxury clothing sector. For her capsule collection, Stewart focused on designs that reflect her personal lifestyle, particularly incorporating travel-friendly outfits. One standout piece she highlighted is a denim wide-leg pant paired with a matching jacket, described as “very me,” designed for comfort during travel while maintaining a polished look. “It’s sort of comfortable on a plane but looks finished,” she explained, noting that it is more akin to leisurewear rather than a traditional sweatsuit.
Additionally, Stewart aimed to create garments suitable for virtual meetings, enhancing Lilysilk’s existing versatile color palette with vibrant hues like bright turquoise and hot pink. These colors are particularly intended for pajama-inspired styles that would translate well on platforms like Zoom.
A notable aspect of the design process was Stewart’s use of deadstock fabrics and mismatched prints, especially for pajama looks. She has been advocating for the reuse of clothing within the celebrity realm, where there is often pressure to present new styles frequently. “In the celebrity world, for every look you see someone wear, there are probably 10 you’ve assembled to try on… It just makes no sense and it certainly doesn’t promote what we all want to do, which is reduce waste and minimize the carbon footprint,” she remarked.
The capsule collection will feature her collaborative logo on the collar, proclaiming “Lilysilk x Elizabeth Stewart,” and will range in retail price from $149 to $309, with sizes available from XS to XL. Although this is Stewart’s first foray into apparel design, she has previously collaborated in shoe design. “I’m not a designer… I add my take on it, which is more color and more looks for my lifestyle,” she stated.
Stewart also mentioned that the collection includes variations of popular designs from Lilysilk’s existing line, such as a pair of culottes that have become a favorite of hers. The entire collaborative design process took place via Zoom, aligning with her sustainability philosophy.
Targeting customers similar to herself, Stewart described the aesthetic of the collection as appealing to individuals who appreciate basic styles infused with bright colors. “Simple, practical, chic and hopefully with a twist,” was how she characterized her personal style, aligning with the vision for this new capsule collection.
