Join Emmaus Bolton for a creative Upcycle Your Own workshop focused on reuse and sustainable practices, featuring fabric selection and crafting a draught excluder.

Emmaus Bolton is set to host an Upcycle Your Own workshop on Friday, March 7, which will coincide with Repair Week, an initiative that promotes the concept of reuse. The event will take place at the charity’s textile recycling centre located in Bolton, offering participants a unique opportunity to engage in creative recycling.

Those who secure a spot for the workshop will not only be able to enjoy a guided tour of the recycling centre but will also witness a live demonstration. Attendees will select fabric from the charity’s scrap store to create a draught excluder, an item designed to help save energy by preventing drafts in homes.

Emmaus Bolton relies on a dedicated team of volunteers who regularly transform donated materials into new, sellable products. These items, which include make-up bags, coin purses, bucket hats, knitting needle cases, and cuddly toys, are available for purchase at the charity’s shop. The proceeds from these sales support the organization, which provides a home for up to 22 individuals who have experienced homelessness.

Participants will have a range of recycled textiles to choose from and will be assisted by Emmaus Bolton’s volunteers throughout the crafting process. Becca, a volunteer at Emmaus Bolton, leads the workshop. She brings her unique experience as a crafter and international costume designer, as well as her role as a senior wardrobe technician at the University of Salford, where she oversees outfit production for university performances.

“Volunteering at Emmaus Bolton was an opportunity to come somewhere I know and like everyone, and I can share my skills and knowledge,” Becca stated. “It is so rewarding in so many more ways than I thought it would be. Come along, learn about reuse and come away with something beautiful and useful.”

Due to limited space at the recycling centre, there are a limited number of places available for this workshop. Early reservations are encouraged for those looking to participate. Interested individuals can reserve their spots by emailing info@emmausbolton.org.uk.
