Gurgaon: Mansi Khare, a former middle-class girl from Gorakhpur, transforms perceptions of sarees through her vibrant social media content, while empowering young women to embrace authenticity in beauty and personal style, supported by her husband amidst early challenges in her journey.
Mansi Khare, a rising fashion and lifestyle content creator originally from Gorakhpur, India, has carved a niche in the competitive world of social media, focusing on the reimagining of traditional attire, particularly sarees. Born into a middle-class family as the second of four siblings, Khare faced financial limitations throughout her early life, which she navigated by taking on responsibilities early, contributing to her family while studying.
In 2015, Khare relocated to Gurgaon for work, earning a modest salary of 8,000 rupees per month. Despite financial constraints, she managed to support her family. However, as the pressure to marry increased, she eventually found her life partner. The couple’s engagement occurred in December 2016, followed by their marriage in April 2017. This new chapter in her life allowed Khare to explore her passion for fashion more deeply.
In 2019, Khare launched her own jewellery business, sourcing pieces from various local markets for sale online, utilising platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. Encouraged by her husband, she expanded her content creation beyond jewellery, beginning with videos showcasing dresses for her travels. This led her to discover a love for sarees—a garment she cherished for its elegance and versatility. She began producing instructional videos on various ways to wear a saree, integrating makeup tutorials and style tips to complement her outfits.
Khare’s journey into content creation faced initial resistance from her social circle, but she credits her husband for his unwavering support during these challenges. “There was a time when there was a certain backlash from the people around me, but my husband always stood with me,” she stated, “I am blessed to have him as a partner because he maintained the balance between me and my family.”
After two years of operating her YouTube channel part-time, Khare transitioned to full-time content creation, prompting her husband to follow suit by focusing on tech content creation. With a growing following, she has become a known figure on Instagram, where she operates under the handle @mansi01khare.
Khare aims to change the perception of sarees among the younger generation, who often view them as outdated or reserved for special occasions. She advocates for the notion that sarees can be stylish, sexy, and suitable for daily wear, depending on how they are worn. “I wish to work to normalize this view and bring about the idea that a saree is something in which one can look cute, one can look sexy or one can look like the queen of the world,” she expressed.
In addition to promoting fashion, Khare has taken on the role of a mentor for young women and students, pointing out the pitfalls of following trends blindly. She aims to foster an understanding that beauty and growth lie in authenticity. “I have noticed on multiple occasions how people are drawn towards products or clothing items which may or may not be suitable for them,” she remarked, expressing her desire to help them make informed choices.
Khare, drawing from her humble beginnings, understands the financial limitations many face and believes in promoting affordable beauty and skincare products. She focuses on sharing her personal experiences and opinions on various items, prioritising quality over brand prestige. “I don’t believe in endorsing products just because they are from a high-end brand. I also believe that if something is working for me, it does not guarantee it would work for someone else,” she noted.
Mansi Khare’s journey reflects her commitment to empowering individuals through fashion while offering a realistic approach to beauty and personal style, all from the perspective of someone who has navigated the complexities of life and aspirations.
