The Fashion Commission teams up with JETRO to foster a sustainable future in Saudi Arabia’s fashion industry through an exhibition and workshops.
The Fashion Commission, in collaboration with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), has launched a partnership aimed at promoting innovation and sustainability within Saudi Arabia’s fashion industry. This initiative is part of a broader strategy set forth by the Fashion Commission, which prioritizes the education of local designers, the development of the fashion ecosystem, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
As a pivotal aspect of this collaboration, the Fashion Commission is hosting an exhibition at its headquarters located in Riyadh from February 18 to February 20. This exhibition is dedicated to showcasing the quality and creativity inherent in Japanese textiles, particularly emphasizing sustainable production practices.
The event is designed to include a variety of interactive workshops intended for Saudi designers and textile specialists. These workshops seek to provide participants with advanced skills and knowledge necessary for navigating the evolving fashion landscape, while simultaneously fostering connections between Saudi talent and their Japanese counterparts. Moreover, the initiative aims to help expand professional networks that are crucial for the growth of local fashion brands.
By celebrating the cultural heritage of both Saudi Arabia and Japan, the exhibition will highlight the fusion of traditional techniques with modern design innovations. It aspires to motivate a new generation of designers to explore and bridge the gap between heritage influences and contemporary fashion approaches.
Burak Cakmak, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fashion Commission, stated that this partnership exemplifies their dedication to empowering local designers and enhancing the fashion sector. He remarked that the exhibition represents a substantial advancement in cultivating creative dialogue between Saudi and Japanese talents, while propelling innovation towards a more responsible and sustainable future.
Meanwhile, Shiro Akiyama, the Managing Director of JETRO’s Riyadh office, pointed out that this collaboration not only fortifies the long-standing trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan but also paves the way for new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the fashion and textile industries. This partnership reflects a significant step in positioning both countries toward more innovative and sustainable practices within the apparel sector.
