Fendi celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025, highlighting a century of innovative craftsmanship, iconic products, and the evolution of a fashion powerhouse that began in Rome.

Fendi, the iconic Italian luxury brand, recently celebrated a remarkable milestone—its 100th anniversary in 2025—marking a century of innovative craftsmanship and significant contributions to the fashion landscape. The celebration highlights the brand’s evolution from a modest boutique in Rome to a leading force in contemporary luxury fashion, as reported by Vogue Singapore.

The story of Fendi began in 1925 when Adele and Edoardo Fendi opened their leather and fur goods boutique on via del Plebiscito in Rome. The brand’s foundation was built on a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design, spearheaded by Adele’s avant-garde vision. This unique approach set Fendi apart from other boutiques at the time, creating a legacy that would resonate through the decades.

As the Fendi family grew, with the addition of five daughters—Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla, and Alda—the brand’s influence expanded significantly. The transformation from a small workshop to a prominent fashion house was solidified when in 1965, the Fendi sisters enlisted the creative talent of designer Karl Lagerfeld. His impact on the brand was profound; his introduction of the iconic double F logo, also known as “Fun Fur,” redefined the presence of fur in fashion. Lagerfeld’s collaboration with Fendi lasted an impressive 54 years, marking the longest designer collaboration in the history of fashion. Under his direction, Fendi evolved, expanding its offerings beyond fur to include ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, and couture.

The late 1990s marked another pivotal moment for Fendi as Silvia Venturini Fendi, granddaughter of the founders, took on a key role within the brand. She displayed a keen understanding of the contemporary consumer, most notably with the introduction of the Baguette bag in 1997. This bag, initially a simple accessory, became a cultural phenomenon after being featured in the popular TV series “Sex and the City,” turning it into a symbol of chic luxury. Following this success, Venturini Fendi also introduced the Peekaboo bag in 2008, further showcasing the brand’s ability to blend practicality with whimsical design.

Fendi’s centennial celebration underscores its unyielding ascent in the luxury market, driven by a synthesis of innovation and heritage, which continues to resonate with fashion enthusiasts around the globe.
