The 2025-26 Fall/Winter season opens with FETICO’s runway show, blending nostalgia and contemporary styles inspired by the iconic Betty Page.
The 2025-26 Fall/Winter season kicked off at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo with a dynamic runway show from the fashion brand FETICO, held at the Shinseiki dance hall in Uguisudani. The show, which took place on the opening day of the fashion event, centered around a unique blending of themes that drew from both nostalgia and contemporary fashion aesthetics.
This season, FETICO took inspiration from the iconic Betty Page, a notable figure from the 1950s known for her role as a bondage and pin-up model. The collection draws from the photo book “Queen of Curves,” captured by renowned photographer Bunny Yeager. Page’s influence is evident throughout the runway presentation, with its exploration of sexuality through fashion and the celebration of feminine curves.
The collection debuted with a striking classical black dress, tailored to highlight the model’s upper body while seamlessly integrating FETICO’s signature lingerie-style details. Elements reminiscent of bondage—a hallmark of Page’s style—like harnesses, leather belts embracing the collar, and chokers, were prominent throughout the show. The introduction of a leopard print pattern, inspired by Page’s wardrobe in the referenced photo book, added a vibrant yet edgy touch to the collection.
Designer Emi Funayama, who has long admired Betty Page, elaborated on her vision for the collection. “Betty’s charm is both sensual and charming,” Funayama remarked. “I admired her for elevating the previously radical image of bondage into fashion and establishing her unique style.” Her appreciation for Page’s ability to blend radicalism with fashion sensibilities has driven Funayama to reinterpret this style into a modern context.
In addition to the motifs of bondage fashion, the collection also pays homage to the elegant styles of 1950s haute couture, embracing the aesthetic that celebrated the feminine form. This juxtaposition seeks to create a real-clothes collection that balances sophistication and sensuality, presenting a fresh take on historical influences within today’s fashion landscape.
The show not only highlights FETICO’s inventive spirit but also situates the brand within a larger dialogue on the evolution of feminine fashion, offering attendees a glimpse into a season where history and modernity merge.
