Los Angeles-based Amaré magazine has honored Filipino-American designer Maria Victoria Mejia with a prestigious award during its Heroes of Change ceremony. Mejia, the CEO and designer of the luxury brand Viktorya-Minaudière, was the sole Filipino-American recognized among the distinguished honorees at the event held on February 20 at Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California.
Mejia was celebrated alongside notable figures including KTLA News anchor Courtney Friel, acclaimed author Dr. Natasha Weems, and television personalities Jackie Christie and Renee Graziano, who are well-known for their roles on the shows “Basketball Wives L.A.” and “Mob Wives,” respectively. The event featured a star-studded atmosphere, highlighting the impact and contributions of various influential personalities in their fields.
Viktorya-Minaudière, known for its luxury bags crafted from premium shells, has gained a reputation for combining elegance and sustainability. Amaré magazine, recognized for its chic content and high-profile events, commended Mejia for her exceptional craftsmanship. The publication stated, “Her commitment to craftsmanship and dedication to sustainable luxury make her a true inspiration and a deserving honoree at the Heroes of Change Awards.”
In a statement regarding her recognition, Mejia expressed deep appreciation for the honor, stating, “I am filled with gratitude for this incredible opportunity. Being recognized and celebrated by Amaré Magazine means so much to me as it highlights the passion I have for my work.”
Her meticulously crafted designs have found admirers among celebrities and influential figures in the fashion landscape of Southern California and beyond. Mejia’s creations have been featured on platforms such as the Golden Globes website and showcased at major events including Los Angeles Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week.
Reflecting on her achievements, Mejia remarked, “This recognition serves as a reminder of why I do what I do and the impact I hope to make. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement from everyone who has been part of my journey. This moment inspires me to keep striving for excellence and to continue sharing my mission with others.”
She also underscored the importance of her Filipino heritage, saying, “Being recognized as a Hero of Change on a global stage is an honor I will cherish forever. This prestigious award not only acknowledges my efforts but also highlights my roots and the importance of Filipino craftsmanship in redefining luxury.”
Mejia’s journey into the fashion world began after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology in the Philippines, followed by a successful career as a hospital laboratory professional in the United States. Her passion for fashion led her to launch her exclusive bag collection at the Philippine Fashion and Cultural Expo in Los Angeles in late 2022. In recognition of her influence in the fashion domain, she received accolades from The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) during a ceremony in 2023 at Zipper Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
Amaré magazine, founded in 2016 by fashion expert George Rojas, is dedicated to championing empowerment, integrity, and philanthropy within the arts community. Rojas highlighted the magazine’s mission to support emerging artists and entrepreneurs, adding significance to Mejia’s accolade as she continues to elevate Filipino craftsmanship on a global stage.
