Filo’s 63rd edition in Milan showcases a partnership with C.L.A.S.S., focusing on sustainability in textiles and innovative natural fibres.
A significant partnership between Filo and C.L.A.S.S., an international eco-hub founded by Giusy Bettoni, is demonstrating ongoing growth focused on creativity and responsible innovation in the textile industry. The 63rd edition of Filo showcases an initiative titled “Sustainability from A to Z,” developed in collaboration with C.L.A.S.S., which is designed to guide companies through the increasingly complex landscape of sustainability. This edition emphasizes responsible innovation, sharing valuable insights through technical expertise, industry testimonials, and case studies aimed at equipping businesses with the necessary knowledge to make informed sustainability choices aligned with market demand.
The event, taking place in Milan, Italy, highlights the transformative role of advanced natural fibres, specifically focusing on cotton and linen, as key contributors to a more sustainable and traceable textile sector.
Among the notable presentations, C.L.A.S.S. will showcase innovative projects and materials from selected companies. For cotton, the event features Supima®, an ultra-premium cotton known for its superior strength and color retention. Supima® has established a pioneering traceability system through the AQRe™ Project, utilizing a blockchain-based platform developed in collaboration with TextileGenesis™ to ensure real-time monitoring of its supply chain. Additionally, the brand has partnered with Oritain™ to implement forensic testing, providing a solid foundation for authenticity and transparency throughout the production process, addressing the industry’s increasing demand for sustainable and traceable materials.
In the linen sector, the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp will present a comprehensive approach to sustainable innovation in flax-linen production. Key initiatives include enhanced certifications and the launch of a blockchain-based digital traceability platform, set to debut in May 2025, conceived in collaboration with TextileGenesis™ and Lectra. They also plan to introduce a B2B environmental footprint calculation tool and validate the functional properties of flax-linen through scientific research. These efforts represent a decisive step towards ensuring traceability, transparency, and sustainability within the European flax-linen and hemp industry.
Another highlight at Filo 63 is the introduction of REVECOL® by ERCA Textile Chemical Solutions. This revolutionary technology, wholly produced in Italy, repurposes waste vegetable cooking oils into high-performance textile auxiliaries, leading to substantial CO? emissions reductions of up to 72%. The technology has received various certifications, including GRS, RCS, ZDHC, bluesign®, and GOTS, establishing itself as a benchmark for circularity, sustainability, and performance within textile chemistry.
In addition to showcasing materials, Filo 63 offers opportunities for industry professionals to engage in discussions aimed at exploring the latest in sustainability and material science. Two significant discussions are included in the Dialoghi di Confronto program. The first features Giusy Bettoni interviewing Roberto Ghioldi of ERCA TCS on the impact of REVECOL® on textile chemistry. The second panel discussion revolves around advanced natural fibres and includes experts alongside representatives from TextileGenesis™, facilitating dialogues on the potential for further innovation and traceability.
The collaboration’s significance is underscored by the words of Paolo Monfermoso, General Manager of Filo, who stated, “This edition elevates our partnership with C.L.A.S.S. to a new qualitative level. By focusing on natural fibres, we explore their often-underestimated potential for innovation.” He emphasized that the wide range of showcased products reflects extensive research and quality craftsmanship in materials like wool, linen, cotton, and silk.
Giusy Bettoni expressed similar sentiments, noting that this edition marks a continuation in expanding awareness around responsible innovation. “Our longstanding partnership with Filo enables us to push the boundaries of sustainability, introducing pioneering textile products and solutions—from green chemistry to advanced natural fibres,” Bettoni said.
Through these progressive initiatives, Filo and C.L.A.S.S. are actively shaping the future of sustainable textiles in a manner that provides industry professionals with practical tools, innovative solutions, and insights necessary for fostering positive change within the global textile sector.
