The iconic artist’s first full album in over a decade captures the attention of Gen Z and Alpha consumers while redefining fashion trends.

In a landscape increasingly influenced by ‘Ditto consumption’—the practice of purchasing products aligned with shared tastes or popular figures—iconic figures like G-Dragon are capturing significant attention among Gen Z and Alpha consumers. The renowned singer made headlines on October 25, with the highly anticipated release of his new regular album, “Übermensch,” marking his first full album in over a decade, following his mini album “Kwon Ji Yong” in June 2017. The anticipation for this release was heightened after G-Dragon faced unjust drug allegations, leading to a delay in his comeback earlier this year.

Upon its release at 2 PM on the 25th, the album quickly climbed music charts and generated substantial viewership for its accompanying music videos. G-Dragon previously faced scrutiny regarding his timing choice, as artists typically prefer releasing music at midnight to maximize chart positions. Nonetheless, the title track “TOO BAD,” featuring Anderson .Paak, soared to the top of real-time charts on platforms like Melon and Genie shortly after its debut. Further emphasizing its popularity, the music videos for both “TOO BAD” and “DRAMA” captured top spots on YouTube’s trending lists, even climbing into the top three in the U.S. trending videos.

The album’s initial performance statistics reflected its popularity, with Hanteo Chart reporting that “Übermensch” surpassed 670,000 cumulative sales just three days after its release. G-Dragon is scheduled to promote the album further during his “G-Dragon 2025 World Tour [Übermensch] IN KOREA” on November 29 and 30. His setlist is expected to feature hits like “HEARTBREAKER,” “BREATHE,” and “UNTITLED, 2014.”

The response from fans during ticket sales was overwhelmingly positive. Pre-sales for fan club members commenced on October 26, while general sales on October 27 recorded a 100% sell-out rate within minutes. Reports indicated that over 170,000 individuals attempted to secure tickets, with comments flooding social media about the intense competition for access.

G-Dragon’s influence extends beyond music; his fashion choices consistently trigger trends. He has been noted for generating demand for items he wears, including high-top sneakers and luxurious outerwear. Remarkably, G-Dragon’s recent appearance in acupressure slippers caused a sell-out situation, with prices escalating significantly in resale markets. His style choices, including pajama and furry slippers, along with collaborative merchandise, demonstrate the breadth of his impact on fashion.

His latest music video further positions G-Dragon as a trailblazer in style. It showcased a mix of traditional gender codes by incorporating a skirt over pants, reflecting a trend known as “skants” that has gained traction among Gen Z consumers. Reports from industry sources indicated a significant surge in the sales of layered pants styles since the video’s release.

As G-Dragon delves into this new phase of his career, there remains constant exploration of his past stylistic iterations, which have often been ahead of their time. His early adoption of wide pants in 2011, during a period dominated by skinny jeans, was met with skepticism but is now acknowledged as a forward-thinking move that continues to resonate today.

With a career that spans nearly two decades, since his debut with Big Bang in 2006, G-Dragon’s status as an artist transcends traditional idol categorizations. As fans and followers anticipate his upcoming activities, the conversation surrounding his artistic and cultural contributions remains vibrant and salient.
